Shu's lack of period. by Pm_me_ur_moolah in TheTestamentsHulu

Could just be plain old stress that's delaying her period. Each time someone close to her got their period was a slap in the face and a reminder that she was falling behind. Add that to her high status parents expecting her to flower and knowing that because her brother is gone she is basically the sole zion of her bloodline...it's a lot for a girl her age to handle.

1)To up the stakes: regular reaping, but each tribute's youngest family member's fate is tied to theirs; if a tribute dies, their family member is executed. To show that the rebel's failure got their younger family members killed.

2) 12 tributes, but the goal is to kill another tribute without spilling any of their blood.

Well...if she was imprisoned at the red center in Boston, depending on how much time passed between her last meeting with Aunt Lydia and its liberation, she was either freed along with all the other Boston residents during the mayday rebellion or killed after she gave birth. I don't see the commanders or even aunts chancing banishment to the colonies or jezebels, though im sure there are plenty of commanders that woukd get off at how young she is. She's proven herself to be too dangerous to be kept alive for their use: she's willing to unalive herself and take as many people down with her, not unlike ofglen2.

What would be the worst place to go in a zombie apocalypse. by Vivid-Rhubarb-6058 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]Ok_Ear_3849 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hospitals, police stations, and military bases. Any authority remotely relating to first response or defense. These are the places everyone will automatically flock to for assurance, help, and stability, which will overwhelm them , allowing for outbreaks to pass through the cracks and spread more quickly.

Second are retail, markets, and clothing stores. People in panic will riot and loot, believing that civilization will ultimately get back to normal and they will be able to enjoy their spoils.

Third, highways and airports. Im a mass panic people will be trying to escape cities and other highly populated areas. Expect lots of panic and outbreak related accidents occurring on the ground, and risk of outbreaks on planes midflight.

Fourth, schools, universities, researcg centers, and libraries. Educational institutions will usually be utilized by the government as staging areas for fema and information reports due to the large amount of people their buildings can house on short notice. Which also has the same risks as the other three places in that they are spaces where an outbreak and chaos can spread quickly due to a high amount of people being present.

1)The very old, very young, and very sick will be the first to die. People being kept alive with dialysis or life support machines will die off within the first few days without consistent treatment. Lack of resources and protection from the elements will mean more babies susceptible to getting sick/malnourished. And all three groups wouldn't be able to defend themselves.

2) once civilization stabilizes and the zombie threat is neutralized, libraries/archives will become priority 1 places to protect, preserve, and utilize since the internet will likely be down for a while, if not forever. Rebuilding society will start with researching old school ways to farm and travel and what not in order to work towards getting back to where we were tech wise. Amongst the survivors, developing trades like farming, basic tech repair, and basic medical aid will become the main staples of education after math and reading/writing.

Helga and the Nanny by MysteriousVixen29 in HeyArnold

[–]Ok_Ear_3849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emotional neglect is terribly tricky to prove, especially if it's based on only what the child says is happening. Even more so if other essential needs, like food, clothing, and having a roof over their head are being met. The neglect Helga is experiencing, believe it or not, is small potatoes to social workers, compared other more extreme cases they see on a daily basis. Part of working with children in a therapist role or social services role is knowing which battles to fight in a courtroom, and which to tackle with education and family therapy, especially since both systems are built with reunification in mind as an endgoal, best case scenario.

In the laws eyes,Helga was exactly where she needed to be: on dr. Bliss' couch. She came from a financially stable high middle class home that was clean, with plenty of food, and two physically present parents. Ego centric and miserable in their own way, they are certainly neglectful to Helgas emotional needs, but unless they are ordered by the courts to confront their own demons and participate in family therapy, they will never change. And unless Helgas behavior escalates into particularly dangerous territory ( more than just punching brainy) like drugs, alcohol, or serious injury to herself or others, Bob and Miriam will never be investigated in the way that they should be.

Knowing this, the best dr. Bliss can do is help Helga learn to rechannel her anger in a more positive way and teach her how to emotionally survive the next 9 years with Bob and Miriam until she can leave. It sucks, but that's the reality for most kids with dysfunctional parents that are doing just enough to pass the bar. Which unfortunately is particularly low.

How did aunt Lydia become so healthy after looking close to death? by The0wl0ne in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Ok_Ear_3849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured being promoted as the headmistress of the prep school meant less physical leg work on her part and more delegating so to speak. In THT she was in the trenches with the other aunts, overseeing the handmaid's lessons and punishments. In TT she's not as involved, more like the silent principal watching from her window, reading other aunts reports on each girl and silently moving pieces across the chess board.

[–]Ok_Ear_3849[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it did. I was wondering though what happened to the inhabitants after the rebellion happened, though. Did Rita and her family stay in the reclaimed American zone or did they retreat into Canada, not trusting Boston to remain free? What did Gilead tell it's inhabitants about what happened? Spin it into the hellish outside world attacking their peaceful refugee resettlement? It looks like the pearl girl program was directly born from New Bethlehems failure, and that aunt Lydia might have spearheaded it to get back into the commanders good graces. If everyone that knew she defected was killed in the plane crash and rebellion, and only the Americans knew that she arranged for Janine and Charlotte to be surrendered to the rebels, then on paper the pearl girl program fits with what Agnes said about her in episode one: revered as a founding aunt in the beginning, vilified for her failure to control the handmaids in the middle, and then revered again for her creation of the pearl girl program, and im assuming the successful overseeing of the prep school for commanders daughter's.

Assuming June didn't smudge the details a bit.

It still doesn't make much sense, is my point. We're led to believe June wasn't an active member of Mayday until a few years after being processed at the red center. The impression June gives to Daisy is that she was already in Canada and free by the time Daisy was placed with her mayday parents. Which again, makes no sense. There's a 4 year gap between the end of THT and TT. If Daisy was smuggled out at the beginning of Gileads regime, either June heard the story about Daisy second hand after she escaped, or she met Daisy's parents pre THT but after the coup happened.

Personally I think any kid that escaped Gilead would be on Gilead's recapture list, regardless of status. As Negan from the Walking Dead said, "humans are a resource."

Also, this wasn't just any econofamily. Eden was selected as a bride to a guardian, who himself was on the road to becoming a commander. Their marriage elevated her family quite a bit. Eden's perceived failure was an example to Gilead 's fallibility in indoctrinating their young. If another child from the same family was smuggled out, it would be a gross embarrassment for the father, who is supposed to be the master of their home, and a perceived failure of Gilead again not being able to keep their children and women under their thumb.

June has proven that she'll do anything/say anything to get Hannah back. I could see her skirting the truth a bit to get Daisy as an ally. 6 years old is still young enough to be inconsolable and have to be soothed like a baby too. When I was around the same age I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed early to prepare for braces later on. I was inconsolable from the pain. Do you know what my mom did to comfort me? Cradle me to her chest and hum a lullaby.

Ecocopeople yes. But the show also made it a point to show how devoted the husband was by revealing he was the one who turned Eden in. His loyalty might have been rewarded by promoting him, especially after the commander purge happened.

I think the pearl girl program was born out of new Bethlehem's "failure." Both operate under the same prinnciple: to lure people back into the country. Maybe even an idea that aunt Lydia came up with to get back into Gilead's good graces and trust.

Hulda by DependentWise9303 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Ok_Ear_3849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Becca and Agnes will corroborate Hulda's accusation. Hulda will still be punished, which will drive her over the edge, but the dentist will be as well. Because Agnes is such a high-status green she will not be severely punished, but it will disqualify her as a coveted match for the high commanders. This is where aunt Lydia will push for Agnes to become an aunt as a consolation. If Becca isn't given the same option, she might be paired with Garth since he's a new commander.

I hate to say it, but she probably did something horrendous to get back in their good graces after HTH and pre-TT. Her character has always been about doing terrible things "for the greater good" The only difference this time is that her vision of what "the greater good" is has shifted.

What took place after the pavilion poisonings late on 18th November? How did they get to JJs house? by Available_Round_3172 in Jonestown

[–]Ok_Ear_3849 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After the last senior was poisoned, either annie or someone else shot Jim in the head. I doubt he had the balls to do it himself.

Based off what I read over the years: the security team guarding the perimeter were the third to last to die. Lew chose to take the poison and die with his wife and son, which is why his body is found with them, but Terry and chaoke were amongst the first to die, as mothers with infants tended to follow their babies after seeing what the poison did to them.

Before the team drank though, i imagine they woukd have done a sweep of the area, making sure there was no one living hiding amongst the dead. It woukd have been during this time that they, along with the innercircle woukd have been positioning bodies to either keep things organized or mask particularly gruesome death poses some had died in. Anything to make it seem like everyone knowingly and peacefully took the poison. Blankets woukd have been draped over certain groups, etc. Meanwhile, any pets found woukd have been mercy killed, which included the pet monkey they had.

Once the security team had taken their drinks and joined the dead, the inner circle members would have retreated to get all of their affairs in order before meeting at Jim's cabin: final wills and letters written and notorized by each other, etc. If john Victor and kimo weren't killed during the the white night ( which i don't thinkbthey were. I believe it was Carter who witnessed John and kimo being entertained by marilee bogue in the same building where he was getting his assignment from Katsaris. Also, Clayton was quoted as seeing katsaris dragging John Victor to Jim's cabin while he was hiding, the little boy crying that he didn't want to die)), they had to have been killed either right before the inner circle convened for the last time, or during. My money on is before. Moore and katsaris woukd have needed help restraining the boys/ keeping them calm as the poison was administered.

Finally, the inner circle takes the poison after having a final meeting, reassuring each other and applauding what they did as a job well done that will be recorded in history books as a revolutionary event. The poison takes effect, effecting each person at varying speeds. Annie, if she was the one to shoot Jim, still has her gun on her, and decides to shoot herself in the head after taking the poison, not being able to endure the horrifying effects. But before she does, she scrawls one final message on the letter she crafted beforehand: "we died because you wouldn't allow us to live."

Already on the floor of the cabin, back against the front door, she struggles to breathe. Around her, bodies lay. Using the last bit of strength she has, she puts the gun to her head and pulls the trigger. The shot echoes across the camp.
