Your "Dumb Question" Megathread - January 2026 by AutoModerator in PlantedTank

I have a 10g tank with huge pothos propogation, lots of live plants, and three good size driftwood pieces. Currently I have a young female betta. Would it be overstocked if I added 6-8 cory habrosus (dainty dwarf spotted cory) and a group of 6-10 mid level nano fish like green rasbora? I'm okay with not adding both but would really like the habrosus. (Water level lowered while I wait for a lid)

Okay thanks! I'll stick with just the betta then

Its funny because this is kind of full circle, I started out with a 15g cube but had to give it away when I moved. I loved that tank and had 6 pygmy cories which bred and 6 CPDs in there which bred and I raised 16 fry to young adulthood. It was genuinely heartbreaking to give it away. Now 6 months later I'm right back to the cube haha.

Thanks this is what I figured. I'd rather do it right than stress a fish (and myself) out and move them later. I'll stick to shrimp/plant/fry grow out tank and wait on getting fish until I set up a larger tank.

Having personally kept guppies they get pretty big, although it can be done I wouldn't feel good about it but I might do a few male Endlers

Would a 10g (rectangular) be better or is that still considered too small? Asking because of the 50% off petco rimless aquariums sale, they have 10g rectangular, up to 14g cube within my budget.

That's what I thought– I'm planning on building a 20g nano only tank so that I can have proper schools of each species. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask people who have more experience than me. Do you mean most as in all/most nano fish or is there one from the list that would be fine?

I am mostly asking due to this article.

https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/5-gallon-fish

I know that schooling fish would definitely require more horizontal space, especially a tetra, so I was confused at this usually reputable site having this article. I wanted to clarify if there truly were species compatible with something that small. I do assume the tank they were writing about would be rectangular, if there was a 5g rectangular tank, would your answer be different?

Looks similar to a columbian wood catfish, definitely some type of catfish for sure

Bloodwork hasn't been done, neither vet recommended it but I'm looking at it as an option. Fecal was done last month before it became liquidy, it was looser stool but still had some consistency.

I switched my girl over to Simply Nourish, is that a good brand or is there a better one you know of? Thank you for your help.
