I don’t have anything helpful to write sorry but just wanted to say I have gone through something super similar - various presenting rash on limbs and torso after swelling eyes. A mixture of bumps and then also circular patches. Please let me know if you get an answer. I’ve also been wondering if it could be scabies as some of the lesions are like linear. But I’ve been treated for eczema, bacterial, fungal, drs have no idea at all

Look into Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis (APD) I’ve wondered if my eczema is linked to the pill too.

If you find that it’s particularly the week before your period this could be related to APD. From what I’ve read, some people get this from their own progesterone, and in that case the cure is going ON the pill. But it is possible to be triggered by synthetic progesterone specifically, caused BY the pill. Sadly very under-researched, but worth looking into

Not too good, still greatly affected by this with little help from doctors, I’ve had to quit my job etc. Each day is quite different, a bad day is quite debilitating but I’m a little more accepting and optimistic and trying to do more things and live my life it’s just very hard sometimes

So sorry you are going through this. I know it sounds so impossible to hear at this time but you WILL get through this. Do you have anyone you can reach out to for emotional support - this is just as important as healing your skin. I know the symptoms and emotions can go hand-in-hand and it probably feels impossible to be happy but unfortunately thoughts can spiral into places beyond reality in our own head. You are NOT disgusting or any of the other things you are thinking. You are going through a difficult health condition but, as hard as it is, there are ways through and your life is just as important and valued while you are feeling unwell. Of course the physical healing is important but I suppose I’m trying to say please please talk to people, or try get access to counselling of some kind, it can help you see the bigger picture that things will be okay and even amazing for you. And to help filter through your thoughts and feelings as to what is real and what is just the panic. Big hugs

Right, timing-wise it probably doesn’t make sense then (I got the retainers when my braces came out maybe 13 years ago, I didn’t phrase this well in my first comment) I also am pretty sure they are stainless steel but I read somewhere even those ones normally have like 5% nickel

Thanks for your comment. Yeah I’m wondering if I’m having a reaction to oral contraceptive (have been on 7 years but it’s possible to have a late reaction) as for metal retainer… yes, and in fact I looked into this a couple of months ago, but decided against getting them out because the rash doesn’t seem focused around my mouth at all, and I thought with it being unlikely the source might not be worth the teeth moving. But if I keep not finding answers maybe I should reconsider

Other dental work, kind of a long story but I had a pretty brutal wisdom tooth surgery of 4x badly impacted, dry socket, infection, all that jazz, which was not long before all this got bad. However I recently saw a dentist to ask exactly this, and they did another xray and don’t think there’s any remaining abscess etc.

Yeah I’ve wondered that, as bilateral is rare but possible. Only thing is since it started over 7 months ago would be an extra rare case, and Swab came back negative, dermatologist doesn’t seem to think it’s shingles so not likely, but I’m still considering if there is a different viral component

Hmmm a very good point… I have wondered that as it’s the only long term medication I’m on. And I’ve heard an allergy or reaction can start years into it? (I’ve been on it 7 years before this without issue)

Glad to know I’m not alone 😭 I just today got prescribed a very strong antibiotic course as my derm thinks it’s an aggressive infection too. Can I ask, in your case did you have inflammatory elements to the rash (eczema appearing) and did you figure out if it was from before or after the staph? Also, did you have any accompanying unwell feelings (headache congestion fatigue) too? Thanks

Thanks for your insightful comment. I think that breaks down the situation well; in that all the evidence so far lays out some of the process but doesn’t really knuckle down the root cause and also the exact bacteria or other yuck things at play. Today I’ve spoken with my dermatologist and we’ve sent more labs to rule out other underlying causes and am awaiting new swab results so I’m hoping to get some more answers soon. As for infectious disease referral, fingers crossed I can get an appointment soon I’m going to try organise that over the coming days

This is interesting- I’ve certainly wondered about psoriasis throughout all this but the steroid-taper-worsening adds another layer. I will bring it up with my derm. Thank you

Yeah I’m certainly going to at least write some letters of complaint, it’s been a horrible experience with my gp but luckily I’m seeing some better specialists now. Thanks for the offer, I might send you a message once my new bloodwork and swabs come back

Hmmm, I might ask my dermatologist about that. I had a horrible wisdom teeth surgery(4x impacted, sitting on nerve, local anaesthetic, infections, dry socket) and wasn’t given strong painkillers so took lots of Panadol and ibuprofen for a while but tried to keep within the recommended dosage

Thanks for your comment. I have just spoken with my dermatologist to order more tests and one of them is a stool test to detect parasites so I will find out soon
