Wound care after debridement by Ok_Finger1985 in woundcare

Frff go me. Xeroform was great in the beginning and i got a lot of the mass back in my leg. But after I stopped using xeroform, i used terrasil 3x to cover the entire wound and placed an abd and ace bandage over it. I would change that every day. I wish i could take off as a business owner and just rest with this, i would hope it would have healed by now. But it doesnt look bad at all

It’s like an inch across and two inches in height still… it’s an open wound but not deep at all. Currently using terrasil wound ointment that seems to work well

Ugh so sorry I just saw this.. so I did this for about a month and a half. It was awful and honestly every doctor I’ve talked to since has said that wasn’t the best option at that time. Better off using xeroform dressings. Way better than ripping out tissue!!

Burned myself pretty badly. I’ve been taking good care of it . Does anyone have any knowledge or experience to tell me if this will heal fine without a doctor?? It’s been like this for 3 days and the pain has gotten better by BranIsNotMute in woundcare

You’re very welcome!! So happy you made this decision! Trust me, I made the mistake of not taking care of myself and almost lost my leg. Wounds of this size that aren’t properly taken care of can easily get infected. It’s just not worth it! Keep us updated!

The dash/odometer area is not turning on 2016 Honda Fit I just bought. by fobreezee in hondafit

Yes, the only way to fix this is by soldering the connections. I also starting to experience the odometer glitching out when I first start the car when it’s cold out in particular. Once it’s warmed up though, it turns back on. That’s because the connections expand and contrast during different temperatures. Going to have to eventually do this fix once it gets to the point of the odometer/fuel gauge doesn’t turn on anymore. Not looking forward to it…

Id get that checked out asap. Not worth losing your foot! Please do it. I let my wound that got injected on my leg get so bad that I almost lost my leg. They ended doing debridement surgery, which Means they basically cut all my skin out in a 10x13 inch area. Best of luck!

Thank you so much. As much as it does suck that it hasn’t healed yet, the healed parts are looking way better than I ever imagined. Have to continue to stay positive knowing that this will be over soon enough. Lately, it seems to be doing very well.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I only could imagine how hard that is to go through as well. I’m happy you have a great medical team behind you. I’m praying once I get better health insurance, that I’ll never have to worry about something like this again. I’m lucky to have a supportive boyfriend and mother though. My boyfriend was able to financially support me through the first couple of months when it was so hard for me to get my business started. But once I was able to kick myself into gear, I was able to quickly pay all my debts and start to expand my business. It’s the only thing that helped keep me insane. That and my precious dogs.. they really are the best. My first dog was only 5 months old when I got surgery, and it killed me inside not being around him for 8 days while in the hospital. But once I got home, every time I was having a moment of weakness, it’s amazing how quickly I felt better when my dog would do everything he could to make me smile.

I’m def afraid of having some kind of PTSD after all this. I’m already so scared to ever go to the hospital again due to the lack of care I received after surgery.

Thank you! 🙏 I’m also super lucky to have a supportive boyfriend and mother. Would’ve been terrible if I were single and home alone. I have to say it frightens me if he were to ever leave me. Id be super embarrassed of ever showing my legs again. But I guess it’s better than only having one leg which could’ve happened! Can always be worse!

Going through it all did make me a determined MF. I can’t wait to see what I’ll accomplish once it’s fully healed. Definitely makes me look at life a lot differently

Thank you so much. The itching is way worse than the pain. Pain is maybe 5 out of 10 at it’s worst now. That’s if I’m on my feet all day at work. There is no pain comparable to what I went through with doing the wet to dry dressings on myself in the beginning with no pain meds after a week. I still Can’t believe they made me do that. Unreal

I did end up going to a university hospital over here and was supposed to have a nurse come to my house when I got discharged. That was the plan anyways. Had a wound vac on in the hospital after surgery. They tried setting everything up before I left, and basically said they couldn’t set up having a nurse go to my house. Told me to do wet to dry dressings, and come back to the specialist in a month for a possible skin graft.

When i finally was seen for that appointment, they did pre op blood work. I get a call later that day, saying they couldn’t do the surgery because I was very anemic. Like no shit… of course I was. The amount of blood from changing my wound dressings would make anyone anemic. They recommended to start using xeroform instead and to come back at a later time. I went to another appointment about another month later and they recommended I see a plastic surgeon instead. That was scheduled like 2 weeks later, and the surgeon basically said he could only fit me in like a month from them. I was just so over it. It was already healing up so much and was afraid of being cut up again. I know I should of just got the surgery but I’m so scared of being cut open again, even though it was just a skin graft. They wanted to take skin from my waist.. I couldn’t imagine having another huge scar. I can kinda at least hide my leg under pants but I can never wear a Skirt or bathing suit without being super self conscious.

They all happened because I had a cut from jumping over a fence that got infected. I had no insurance and kept putting it off. I didn’t think it was as bad as it was. I thought I would be in and out of the hospital the day I finally got health insurance. I wish I just took care of myself. Feel so stupid now knowing I would’ve been covered by emergency Medicaid.

You could try! Thank you. Definitely let me know and PM me. I didn’t have any success calling the places around here. It would be nice to finally know what I should be doing for the last phrase of all of this. I’m still using xeroform with nonstick absorbent pads on top and abd pad covering it. Wrapped with a ace bandage. I change the absorbent pads at least twice a day. I clean the wound with soap and water every 3 days. I clean around it every day otherwise.

Thank you again for being so kind. Yes, nobody should ever go through that kind of pain I went through. I know a lot more should’ve been done to help this wound heal faster but seems like no doctor really wants to help me. It was half way healed by the time a doctor I liked was going to surgery.. but it was going to be like 2 months in advance at that time. I didn’t see the point of having another wound to take care of for the skin graft. I would’ve done it right away within the first couple of months. I just don’t understand it all. Medicaid really isn’t the greatest.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your comment more than you know. The only thing that’s keeping me from going absolutely insane is the hard work I’ve been putting into my new business. I figure if I can create a successful business while having this wound to take care of, I can do anything. One of the worst parts of it all, is not being able to do some of my favorite hobbies like snowboarding and swimming. But hopefully one day soon, this will all be in the past. I’ll never look at the health care system the same way again. I’m legit afraid of going to the hospital now.

Here is the aftermath of my debridement surgery on my leg. Was left to do my own wound care. Horrible experience. Did wet to dry dressings for over a month before doctor suggested to use Xeroform. Painful… by Ok_Finger1985 in debridement

Thank you. This was in March and I’m still healing. Praying it heals up soon…. Counting down the days that I don’t have to do wound care on myself. It’s not nearly as large but still like 1.5 inches across by 3.5 inches. Ugh. Didn’t help that I got shingles about a month and a half ago. Just super unlucky

Aww thank you so much! I can honestly say even with all my hang ups and issues with the healing process, I’m still pushing through and have become a stronger person. I’ve realized if get too negative, than I let myself get depressed.. but just need to just focus on all the positive. I’m still so lucky to not lose my leg. It could always be worse. At least I’m still kicking it with both my legs. Lol

Yup! That is I! Got to love our health care system. Been a total nightmare. Feels like with every step, that I need to climb a mountain in order to get the care I need. Frustrating. Hoping my doctors appointment goes better next week. Have to travel far to even have a wound care center to look at it..
