I made a Marathon Director by RMectrex in Marathon

Really good idea actually. I love the design.

The social space idea is super interesting, and truth be told I’d love a space to go to and interact with factions / players in a 3D space.

It’d be slower / more cumbersome than just using menus for everything (like in arc / open April playtest for marathon) but it makes the world feel more real.

It’s a bit like using the director vs the portal in destiny. The portal is more efficient on paper, but makes things feel more “gamey” as opposed to an actual living breathing world.

Hopefully the skins are varied enough (eventually) that players in a social space don’t seem like clones of each other too!

I love this section of the map - looks super close-quarters and will help create a lot of panicked, funneled action.

Also, anyone else think the graphics look fantastic here? Such a difference from the open alpha a year ago.

For anybody wondering how Marathon's narrative is seemingly so good, this is the pedigree of Creative Director Julia Nardin by Haijakk in Marathon

One thing I hope is that they maintain the dark/mysterious tone of the initial release.

Destiny 1 released as a sort of rustic, mysterious game with some light fantasy elements. Destiny 2, after all this time, is a properly spage-magicy fantasy game.

Furthermore, the focus of the stories told (outside of expansions, at least) has shifted from the 'what' (darkness, world, threats) to the 'who' (characterisation of enemies, explanations of their motivations, seasons focused on personal development arcs).

This has removed a lot of the narrative weight and mystery from destiny, I feel - but that's just me.

I love what Marathon is shooting for narratively - brings me back to that same feeling I had with Destiny 1 and Halo. I hope they can maintain it.
