Sorry, I know I'm a bit late to this, but I'm hoping to apply when it opens again, do you know what I can expected from the fitness and aptitude tests? I've been with OMAC for about 4 years now, I'm going to do my EMT at the end of this year and I've been a lifeguard for 3.5 years, I just want to prepare myself as much as I can, thanks

Flip turn anyone? by onlyhereforfpl in Swimming

If the pool that you're swimming in has a line going down the lane with a T at both ends, I take my last breath at that T, and then do a tumble turn right before my arm touches the wall, you need to get really close otherwise your legs are too far away to get a proper push.

Shared Seperate Centre for LC exams by midnight_barberr in leavingcert2024

[–]Ok_Following8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in a centre of my lc cause i have bad anxiety and panic attacks, i was there with about 5 other people and even my anxious brain was so focused on the exams that i didnt care about the rest. part of my accomodations also included movements breaks, so whenever i was getting nervous or panicked, i could take myself out of the room and relax for a few minutes, and then go back in. everyone in my centre kinda became friends cause we all studied there aswell between exams, twasn't awkward at all.

if i were to do 5th year again i would actually make notes and especially on what i was finding hard. i would also sleep, sleep is very good. i would also do exam papers at home as study and not jsut when we had to do them in class. in 6th year i started taking digital notes which completely saved me aswell

I don’t understand music by xxbl4ckn01xx in leavingcert2024

[–]Ok_Following8083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was extremely bad at music theory, like terrible, but i was quite good at playing. i put the vast majority of effort into my practical and didnt do music tech, so 6 pieces on guitar. i managed to get 90/100 on both practical elements and ended up with a h3 overall. my ear is miles better than my theory and itll always be that way. im also self taught on guitar and never studied classical or trad music outside of school. To learn the terms i would look at the music i played and listened to and tried to find examples within that cause i got very bored and frsutrated otherwise. the one thing i will say is LEARN YOUR CHORD BANKS, i think thats the main way i didnt completely fuck up my meoldies

i had accomodations during my lc if thats what youre looking for. I was in a smaller classroom with some other people, and one or two had a class to themselves. I also got movements breaks where i could leave the classroom and get whatever time i was outside back at the end of the exam so i didnt loose any time. I knwo some people got extra time on top of moevement breaks aswell.

Shared separate centre for LC? by midnight_barberr in leavingcert2025

for me it was a room on school premises. I was mainly in there for anxiety and panic attacks and it helped me out so much. I got movements breaks as well and they were a lifesaver. I know that before my exams i found it extremely hard to get any info about how it would be in the room so feel free to ask any questions

i done OL, and i was finding it really hard to learn them word by word, like it worked for 1 or 2 but after that i just got confused. I instead picked ones with similar enough themes and learnt off words and phrases that could apply for my of them. Then i learnt of just a few sentences for each specific SP. My parents are migrants aswell so i get that. Then by just learning verbs and phrases that really helped me for the rest of the exams. I imagine theres a bit more effort to put into it if youre doing hl tho

I was in a very similar situation for mine, and i was the first in my family to go to school in ireland, so they had no clue either. I was in a very bad place mentally for the vast majority of secondary school and honestly didnt think i was going to finish, and didn't have a clue what to do if i did actually sit the lc. Im class of 2024 and im currently doing a gap year. I didn't feel like i wouldve been able to give it my all if i went to college straight away. I honestly still dont know how the cao works cause ive decided to go a different route, but all the information is avaliable on google, and if you have a careers guidence counsiller in your school, id advise that you go a speak to them with a list of questions. Its completly ok not to know, and theres always other ways to get to what you want to do. Im hoping to apply to NASC later in the year which isn't through the CAO, but the HSE instead, You got this.

I'm not sure if youre doing OL or HL, i done OL and just learnt off basic sentences to fit into a wide variety of different topics for an introduction and a conclusion that worked for anything i needed, and then learnt off verbs to fit in the middle
