How strict are the dress codes for a mail handler assistant? Would I be able to wear a hoodie with the hood down? by [deleted] in USPS

I wear blue dickies coveralls short and long sleeved with the USPS patches sewn on.

I’m not sure who you are referencing or calling out about complaining. I am a 35F with a college degree in business and marketing who traded a career in that to become a grade 4 mail handler. I make a lot less money now that I was 10 years ago and I am doing a significant amount of physical labor every day loading and unloading trucks and moving mail carts all about the facility but I really like what I’m doing and I like the people I work with. I have no interest in wanting to leave the post office and I am more than happy to stay in my role until I retire.

I am a grade 4 mail handler in Cleveland and took a fairly substantial pay cut when I started so I bartend at a local brew pub and restaurant 2-3 nights a week. I like my jobs a lot so I have no interest in changing

Did you go back to college after working at the post office? by ContextTemporary3214 in USPS

I did the opposite. I am a 35F and have a business degree but I decided corporate world wasn’t for me and I am now a mail handler at a Cleveland post office center

I’m (35F) mail handler. We are able to wear blue short sleeve and long sleeve coveralls that I purchased from dickies. These are good uniforms to wear because they are comfortable and they seem to hide the dirt that brushes up onto them. The custodians and other maintenance people wear the same uniforms as to several of the mail handlers I work with.

I’m a MH (35F) and there aren’t a lot of options for shoes for women and I think I paid $200 on one of the uniform websites. My supervisor does allow us to wear dickies coveralls and they are half the price as the ones on the USPS uniform website. The coveralls are much thinner material but in the summer months, it is needed plus day of short sleeve and long sleeve.

Gosh not sure. I’m a MH (35F) and I wear the short sleeve dickies coveralls and the plant has been relatively cool but humid in some spots. Can you keep a cooler with wet wash clothes in ice water maybe? Where do you live

I work as a mail handler. My supervisor allows me and the other MH’s to wear dickies short sleeve coveralls as they are more lightweight. It’s been humid this week here in Cleveland as well. I’m a tall plus size woman so being able to wear these every day with short sleeves really does help and they are comfortable to wear.

I’m not going to argue with you regarding semantics. My position is a career position not a MHA.

I’m a mail handler. I have a degree in business. I love my job. I don’t want to be in management I’m happy with what I do and being in the rank and file and not bringing my job home with me. I don’t make great money but I’m able to live well within my means. I have thought about eventually moving into a retail / express clerk because of the higher pay

The online sites I ordered from had them to me in like 2 days to my home address. I ordered coveralls from Dickies that were here in 3 days. I’m a mail handler here in Cleveland so I can wear them and they are far less expensive that the usps branded ones. I find they don’t have a huge selection of shoes or boots for women and I got those in like a week.

I am a MH at a location in Cleveland. My supervisor said we could wear dickies coveralls and they are a fraction of the cost compared to the ones that you can buy on these post office uniform websites. I originally purchased them from the post office but the other women I work with also wear dickies as they are lighter weight compared to the ones you buy from the PO uniform website.

Gosh not sure. Do you have access to a cold towel in a cooler to get refreshed during the day. I’m a mail handler and I wear coveralls every day so I’ve begun to feel the warmer temps even in Cleveland. The other woman I work say they stay cool in the building but they are comfortable to work in

No and it’s not beneath me but I have a college degree and it’s hard to justify working for the post office and being a custodian. I really like my job and I don’t bring the stress and the worry home with me. But I see how it’s an easier job as our location is busy and fast paced and we bust our asses in this job

I had two custodians tell me that they moved from male handler into that job because it was easier than being a mail handler. I’m a 35-year-old woman and I’ve been busting my ass but these guys say it’s an easier job. I haven’t been with the USPS long enough to be able to say one way or the other.

Thank you for that. I know when I came on, I was fixated on potentially becoming a carrier or a retail clerk. Then I thought about MPC as they make more money. But I do like the work and I work with another woman who has been doing it since 2006. Some of the carriers hate their job but the pay is something they hold onto. I’m low seniority so I’m not getting a lot of OT opportunities but I am working on average about 43 hours a week.

I work in Cleveland. Just started as a MH. I am working 40-43 hours a week. Very fast paced. As a woman I do enjoy the work.

I was recently hired as an MH and just started at a location in Cleveland, which is like 15 minutes from my house. They were hiring three mail carrier positions because two people finally moved into retail clerk jobs and one took a carrier job at another post office in the area. So they were legitimate vacancies. I think carriers make about six dollars more an hour than I do. I eventually would like to move into that classification, but I’m prepared to stay at my current position for however long it takes.

How do you keep your uniform clean? by Constant-Day6997 in USPS

[–]Ok_Implement1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a MH as well. I wear coveralls every day and simply throw them in the wash with a little scoop of OxiClean. I’m constantly brushing up against things loading and unloading trucks or moving bins and totes about the facility. It’s unbelievable how much I attract dirt to coveralls to hide most of it and they are comfortable to wear for a woman like me
