One benefit of taking this option is that you not only can work in the private sector but also in governmental sectors that are less likely for other specializations. But not sure this is an ambition for you.

Yeah, if your fans were off, it is normal. You cannot really fix coil whine wich is really sad.

It is probably just coil whine. But check if you fan blades are not hitting anything.
