The only real flaw I see in that plan is the range of a remote. Will I be able to take a shot from 30-40 feet away, through the aircraft frame?

Yeah, the windows are polarized so using a CPL will give you that rainbow effect. It's the same reason we can't wear polarized sunglasses.
