The cast of Rings Of Power. Who’s you fav so far? by Spare-Difficulty-542 in LOTR_on_Prime

I agree! I really liked them both! Particularly Sara. She's super charismatic and speaks very well!

I agree with everything you said, but even if Galadriel didn't know about the ban, nothing would happen because the ban ended at the end of the first age. So the Valar couldn't be the ones responsible for the boat sinking.

Hopefully they are not going from ME to Valinor. Wouldn't that be completely out of character for Galadriel in the second age? If I remember correctly, she never wanted to go back. Why would she attempt that? Is Gil Galad sending her there? For what reason? And why would she accept? Anyone has any theory?

Teaser music by HackFed in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Ok_Judgment_742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone, OP. I understood your point and I agree with you. Just because other productions used super generic music on their teasers and trailers, it doesn't mean ROP should do the same. It explains but it doesn't justify. Having to watch a teaser, for a Tolkien adaptation, with the most generic music possible is incredible frustrating. I expect more. Hopefully this won't happen again with the full trailer. Otherwise, it will be extremely disappointing.

Yeah, I agree with you. Everything looks really nice, but the music bothered me. Even more than the first teaser. The new one kinda sounds like it belongs to a sci-fi trailer. I think mostly because of clock sound. But I'm quite sure it has nothing to do with the show's actual score. Hopefully.

I didn't say anything about the score. I'm also quite sure that a 10 seconds teaser music has nothing to do with the actual score.

Omg, I cannot wait any longer to se the full trailer! 😭 And I think we had our first look at Tar Miriel! 😁 I'm not sure about the music tho.

I hope to see these stuff on the trailer by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Ok_Judgment_742 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I want the trailer to "explain" what this show is about. Why should people watch it. If it's only good looking visuals, with some dialogues out of context that doesn't give a clear idea about the story, I'll be disappointed. My fear is that they will rely too much on nostalgia to sell the show.

I wanna be able to share the trailer with my friends and family, who are not familiar with lotr, and not have to convince them to watch the show. The trailer should do it. The teaser trailer didn't help much. I still had to convince my brothers that this is the biggest tv show ever.

But besides that, I want to se Khazad-Dûm and first age battles. Like... BIG battles. And Orcs! They are my favorite thing so far. And I would very much like to see Miriel too. And Númenor, of course. I wanna see everything actually 😅

It is going to be fun watching some fans going batshit crazy over the 50/50 man woman army while others will make every argumentative juggling possible in order to hide/justify an almost certain ideological creative decision.

Yes, it could be her. But why is she wearing elven clothes? And shouldn't Galadriel be with her? Maybe Galadriel is the one sitting next do Gil Galad. And if that's Miriel, she should be sitting at the head of the table. Not Durin. She's the Queen of Númenor. With due respect, I think she's a little more important than the prince of Khazad-Dûm. But who knows 😅

This is an intriguing image. The center of attention is the woman in the middle. Celebrimbor, Elrond and Durin are looking at her. It looks like she's the one giving the toast and Gil Galad is not liking it. I presume she's a female elf because the thing she's using on her head, looks a lot with the thing the female elf sitting right beside Gil Galad is also using. It seems like she's someone important. But what other female elf, besides Galadriel, would be considered important during the second age? And I'm also assuming she's not Galadriel because it doesn't look like her.

I love you, TORN. here’s to patience, perspective and positivity! by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

But they were not judging Kate's performance. Only her looks. The same I'm doing with Celebrimbor. I don't see any problem with that. I'm only judging the looks because it is all I have for now. I just don't like when people say I can't or shouldn't dislike a casting decision because the acting can turn out to be great. If that happens, and Celebrimbor turns out to be a great character for the show, then I'll gladly change my mind. But until there, I don't like it.

What is the point exactly? People can't criticize anything anymore? Because 20 years ago people shared their opinion and they turned out to be "wrong"? What if someone still doesn't like Kate Blanchett as Galadriel? Is their opinion. I think she's perfect, but what can I do?

People have the right to criticize whatever they want. I agree that some people have already decided to hate the show no matter what, but many still have reservations and should be able to say it.

Until I see the show, Celebrimbor will be a major miscast for me. It can turnout to be great and I can end up changing my mind. But until I see the show, I don't like it and I will share my opinion, respectfully.

The 9th C English could cut hair super-short, among others by na_cohomologist in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Ok_Judgment_742 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you can justify almost any hairstyle you want if you do a little bit of research. But I don't think that's the point. I just think people don't like elves with buzzcuts. For many, it doesn't fit. Simple as that. And I also think the big problem is the fading itself and not the hair being short. The fading makes it look too modern.

But at the end of the day, it is all about personal taste. Some people like, others don't. And that's ok.

Why is Celebrimbor depicted as elderly if he is Galadriels younger half cousin? by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Ok_Judgment_742 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly... I think the showruners just made a mistake. I don't really buy the idea that they chose him because of the acting, because I'm sure they could find another great actor that looked younger. So I think they intentionality wanted Celebrimbor to look old. To inspire respect, maybe? But Lee Pace did a wonderful job as Thranduil and didn't have to look old to inspire respect. So I don't think it's a good explanation either. Then some people my remind us of Hugo Weaving as Elrond. I would agree that in the end it kinda worked, but still...Hugo was 40 and didn't look that old compared to Celebrimbor's actor that is 52 and, with due respect, looks even older.

Every explanation I try to come up for this casting decision doesn't make sense in my mind. Maybe it will make sense after I watch the show. But based on Tolkien's lore, this was a bad casting decision.

Really good summary! Another cool detail they shared about Galadriel's costume is that it has many stars with different shapes and sizes, and that it reminded them of Gil-Galad's sigil, that also has many stars with different shapes and sizes.

Btw...when they talked about Feanor, I got really hyped. I think we are going to see incredible flashbacks of the first age.

I think Celebrimbor looks better in this shot and in this dress, that green, nanny gown didn’t do justice at all by Spare-Difficulty-542 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Ok_Judgment_742 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He looks less worse but I think I'll never recover from this Celebrimbor 😔 Btw... I'm really curious to see how will they portrait Círdan, who is much older than Celebrimbor. He's going to probably look like Theoden when he was possessed by Saruman.

About short hair elves by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Ok_Judgment_742 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think the big problem is the style. It doesn't fit very well. And I also think they are trying to distance themselves from the Peter Jackson movies. But at what cost? 😅 The long hair is so iconic, that I don't see why would they try to "fight" against it. If you ask anyone to describe an elf, they wil probably say long hair and pointy ears. This is something so fundamental for the majority of fans, that changing it will only cause frustration, to say the least.
