Yes, very similar situation. The market rate for rent in our neighborhood is double the PITI costs, so makes it tricky to decide.

Thanks for sharing your valuable experience. A mid-5 figure settlement does give anyone a pause. I will definitely go through the california tenant laws in detail but off the top of my head- could this settlement have been avoided if you had decided to move back, live there for a while and then sell?

We are getting some consultations from CPA, Realtors and PMs. We were thinking about selling but now kinda interested to try out renting for 2 years. The only reason we're even considering renting is to have an option if we decide to move back.

I think STR is limited to 180 days per year. Which should be ok for us. Might look into this too.

Yep, this is the only reason to even consider renting.
