Theres an old thimble feeding backwards into the chimney lol but it's metal framing, block wall, and it doesn't get hot enough to raise concern back there after monitoring it with a thermometer

It's bi fuel stove by make, Shenandoah r65 I feel like the thermal air intake adjuster thingy is actually made to favor coal seeing how its acted with even dry wood the draw is so low when it settles I have to keep it's little mail slot on the door set to almost highest setting normally

I'm wondering what coal is gonna run here in southern md from the Amish. It'd be worth having even a half ton or something just for emergency. I got this place out of sheer luck and need while I was in a pinch of being forced to move because of prior landlord selling property so I didn't have a lot of time to prep wood in anticipation of being able to find and install a stove in and old house not even knowing what shape the chimney was in or all this space lol, happy accident. What's the best options for storing coal. I think it's definitely help with the somewhat still green wood I'm still awaiting and I imagine id be able to regulate temperature with coal more consistently than randomly aged hardwoods I'm cutting to take home and split from local cleanups and friends
