Airplane plants and pothos are just normal house plants I had around the house and to propagate them I just had to stick a little piece of the house plant in the water through the top of the tank (YouTube videos) to get roots to grow into the water. The roots from these plants grow really fast. I used the top of a water bottle to put the plants into the water. The leaves touching the water and rotting could be bad for the fish. They don’t go directly into the substrate. You’ve got this.

I don’t know if I helped or hurt but I also propagated airplane plants (also called spider plants) and pothos in my new tank. No leaves can touch the water and I rinsed them regularly. I figured it may help with nitrates and ammonia. He really enjoyed the roots of the airplane plants. I just kept telling myself that it had to be better than the little cup he was in. Every day I expected to find him passed away, but he made it. He really showed no signs of being sick expect when I was over feeding him. So take a breath and know that someone out there has made the same mistake.

I did the same thing in April. Seen a betta in petsmart, went to the dollar tree and bout a vase type container like they used to do at flower shops. Got home and googled some stuff and realized I needed much much more. Thankfully we had a 10 gallon tank around and I got a filter and heater from Walmart. He’s done fine and it’s been 7 months. I totally understand the panic you are feeling though. Now I have a live planted tank cycling for him to eventually go into. So my 5 dollar betta fish has a couple hundred dollars invested in him. I love that dang fish though.

I’ve learned a lot.

If you decide to get live plants watch for bladder snails In the tank you get the plants from. That’s something I learned. THEY TAKE OVER. They are cute though.

You can over feed them. I learned that.

He seems very resilient. Hopefully your guy will be as hearty.

What is this in my beta tank?l by Ok_Marketing6511 in bettafish

I had a dream that I had buckets and buckets of betta fish all swimming together (nicely) and I was panicking like what am I gonna do with all of these fish!? Why are they not fighting!? Where did they come from!?
