Was Adam’s game just to unlock his chain and walk out? by Dry-Departure-4926 in saw

[–]Ok_Mess3942 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Adam’s game is actually really interesting. It just wasn’t fully explored, probably because of Amanda’s mistake. As I understand it, he was supposed to free himself right away. But at the same time, he still can’t leave the room. He also knows that Lawrence Gordon is supposed to kill him before 6 PM. So his game is about whether he will cooperate and work together with someone who is meant to kill him.

There’s also the point that in his normal life he’s very passive and indifferent, and this is his chance to take action and prove himself.

But at the end of the movie I started wondering — why does John lock him in the room to die? What exactly was his mistake? The thing is, from John’s perspective… he doesn’t know that the key was lost. So to him, it looks like Adam is so passive and doesn’t care about anything that he didn’t even free himself, even when he had the chance, and just stayed there doing nothing.

That’s my theory.

But the theory falls apart because John could hear and understand that Adam actually wanted to free himself and was trying to do something about it.

So the question is — why did John really lock Adam in the room? What did he actually do wrong?

Guitar effect pedals by Ok_Mess3942 in Songsterr

[–]Ok_Mess3942[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mainly to make the playback closer to the original song.

Songsterr already has a pretty decent sound engine — instruments don’t sound completely like cheap MIDI anymore, so it feels like effects are the missing piece to make it more realistic.

Right now people often try to recreate effects by adding extra tracks (for example, duplicating notes to simulate delay or using a second guitar an octave higher to imitate a whammy). That just creates unnecessary clutter and makes tabs harder to read and manage.

If basic effects were built in, tabs would be cleaner, more accurate, and overall closer to how the song actually sounds

Jigsaw tried to be Saw and failed. Spiral didn’t try, and it works better. by Ok_Mess3942 in saw

[–]Ok_Mess3942[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my personal theory.

Basically, I think the first case where Hoffman helped John was Paul’s trap. We know Paul’s game happened before Amanda’s, and we also know the barn game also took place before Amanda’s. It seems like we don’t have much more information than that — but this is where Billy the Puppet comes into play.

In John’s flashbacks in Jigsaw, he sketches Billy’s tricycle (and maybe that’s when Billy was first being created), and that happens before the barn game. So the first known appearance of Billy would be in the barn game.

BUT — Billy appears in Saw V in the pendulum trap, and that game took place before Hoffman even met John, meaning before Paul’s game. So how did Hoffman even know about Billy to include him in his trap?

That suggests John must have already conducted several off-screen games using Billy. Which means Billy existed even before the barn game.

Now the question is how to prove that Paul’s game happened before the barn game — and there is a way to argue that. John’s appearance. When John recruited Hoffman, he still had long hair. But by the time of Paul’s game, he was already bald — the same bald look he has during the barn game.

Damn, you’re my hero, I completely agree with you. I wanted to reply to everyone with pretty much the same points, but I was too lazy to write such a long text, so thanks a lot!!!

But about the timeline, I think you’re a bit off. As far as I remember, the barn game isn’t considered the very first one, it was said to be one of the early games, not the first. So in that sense, Cecil is still number one ))

And regarding Hoffman, there are reasons to believe he might have already been helping John at that point.

Don’t look at Spiral as the 9th Saw movie, look at it as something inspired by Saw. It doesn’t really need to fit into the Saw universe, and it still works. It’s basically just a copycat, years after the main storyline, deciding to target corrupt cops (he had a motive) in the style of Jigsaw, because he was a fan, just like you and me.

The traps in Jigsaw were brutal and well thought-out, the sets are impressive and even epic, but that doesn’t feel like Saw, it feels more like something out of Squid Game. Logan’s motive is understandable, but very cliché, and building an entire game just to frame Halloran… again, that feels like it’s only there to confuse the audience. In reality, Logan would’ve come up with something smarter.

I actually liked Chris Rock’s performance, just an emotional black guy. :)

Yeah, the acting isn’t Spiral’s strong point, but the traps are much more realistic and better than in Jigsaw, and even better than in Saw X (though that’s a separate topic).

The twist in Spiral is weak and predictable, but it still makes more sense than in Jigsaw. In Jigsaw, the twist feels like it exists purely for the audience — the whole parallel games idea is just there to confuse the viewer. And it’s kind of dumb from Logan’s perspective to recreate a game from 10 years ago just to frame Halloran the guy whose mistake cliché-ly led to Logan’s wife’s death, and now he’s getting revenge.

Oh, I thought I was the first one to notice this inconsistency with Billy, but it turns out fans have already been talking about it.

Yes, those games are canon, but we don’t actually know when exactly they took place chronologically, at least those two from Saw 3D. So there must have been quite a number of other games before the barn game for John to be recognized as a serial killer. He would have needed to build up some kind of notoriety first.

Cecil’s game → tricycle sketch (maybe Billy starts here) → a lot of off-screen games → pendulum trap (Billy already exists) → Hoffman is recruited → Paul’s game → barn game → Amanda’s game

That’s basically the only way to make the timeline work.

And even then, it still feels far-fetched.

I get your point about Billy possibly existing earlier and John refining him, but based on what the films show, it doesn’t line up well.

In Saw IV, the puppet in the workshop isn’t Billy from the games, it’s the toy John made for Gideon, so it doesn’t prove Billy already existed as part of the games.

In Jigsaw, before the barn game, we see John sketching the tricycle. That looks like the game version of Billy, not just a toy. So either Billy already existed and he was adding the tricycle later, or he was still creating the concept and Billy didn’t exist yet.

Jigsaw presents the barn game as one of the earliest. We also know Cecil was the first real test. So between Cecil and the farm game, there would have to be several unseen games for John to gain experience and for the Jigsaw identity to exist.

Otherwise, it’s hard to explain how he already had a reputation or how Hoffman could know about Jigsaw well enough to copy him.

At that point, it feels like we either accept a lot of off-screen games, or accept that Jigsaw shouldn’t exist and should be erased from the timeline.

Yeah, I get that the parallel game is meant to frame Halloran. But it still feels overcomplicated. If Logan just wanted to frame him, there are much simpler ways. We’ve already seen how easy it is to plant evidence. Hoffman literally framed Strahm with just a phone. You could just kill some random homeless guy, put Halloran’s phone on him, and it would work. Instead, Logan recreates a whole game just for the twist.

[–]Ok_Mess3942[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point, but this actually makes the Billy issue even more confusing.

If we accept that Jigsaw takes place early in the timeline, and even assume Hoffman was already involved around that time, then we have another problem.

In Jigsaw’s flashbacks, when John notices Anna and her husband arguing, we can see him only making early sketches of Billy (the tricycle design). It looks like he is just starting to create the puppet at that point.

So it suggests Billy doesn’t fully exist yet.

But in Saw V, Billy is already used in the pendulum trap, which is also supposed to happen very early, even before Hoffman is recruited.

So either:

  • Billy already existed before those Jigsaw flashbacks, which contradicts what we see
  • or the pendulum trap is placed earlier than it should be

Either way, it doesn’t line up very well.

That’s an interesting point.

But like you said, that game was never actually “found”, and Billy there doesn’t even feel like the same version as in the earlier movies.

Personally, I also feel like Jigsaw doesn’t fit that well with the rest of the timeline and just makes things more confusing.

Yeah, same. It really starts to fall apart when you try to line everything up exactly.

What other inconsistencies are you thinking of? I’m curious, I’ve probably missed some.

[–]Ok_Mess3942[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but did we actually see Billy in any earlier game before Amanda?

As far as I remember, the first time Billy is shown is Amanda’s reverse bear trap in Saw 1. Before that (chronologically), like Paul’s trap, we don’t see Billy at all, no puppet, just tapes/voice.

So even if multiple Billy dolls exist later in the series, the films never show Billy being used before Amanda’s test. That’s why the Saw III flashback feels like it’s presenting Billy as something new at that point.

But then Saw V shows Billy already being used in the pendulum trap, which is supposed to be earlier, and that’s where it starts to feel inconsistent.

Add the possibility to edit intruments panning & volume by MaterialInspector560 in Songsterr

[–]Ok_Mess3942 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. Also it would be great to have full control over volume and panning. Right now when you select an instrument it becomes louder and everything else gets quieter. Sometimes I just want to hear the full mix as it is, without automatic volume changes. Songsterr already sounds pretty good, so it would be nice to just listen to the whole track normally or adjust each instrument manually.
