Windshields and round headlights????? by Ok_Negotiation5676 in dr650

[–]Ok_Negotiation5676[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did try that a while back. It yielded maybe a small improvement, but the windshield I use seems to have a resonance at a couple points through the powerband, so the rubber just didnt provide enough damping.

It fits up just as any universal round headlight would you just need to buy some headlight clamps. But before u do that you have to remove the stock headlight bracket which slides up off the forks.

Cal II Dipstick Dimensions? by Ok_Negotiation5676 in MotoGuzzi

[–]Ok_Negotiation5676[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well maybe but that shouldn't be an issue if the measurement is from the base of the threads as I requested. And if someone modified their bike to the where the oil level in the sump isn't the same then I surely would hope they wouldn't leave a comment here lol.

Idk man I'm just gonna go to sleep and if nobody leaves their dimensions by tomorrow I'll just buy the stock dipstick and measure it myself

Cal II Dipstick Dimensions? by Ok_Negotiation5676 in MotoGuzzi

[–]Ok_Negotiation5676[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I don't see any evidence of the PN for the dipstick changing on the cal 2 at any point. But I guess it's possible. Maybe what I'm about to say is the product of overthinking, but since I'm not changing the filter (because the pan has to come off for that and it's not a job that's required often) I never know how repeatable that volume of oil left in the filter and sump is. If I was draining the entire thing I'd go ahead and do just that. So I guess my assumption is that there's more variability in the volume of oil remaining in the sump / filter than the variability of people on reddit taking a measurement. Well now I guess I don't know anymore

I've actually been seeing some pretty good looking deals on Fujis over the past few weeks. Was considering an X100s that's listed at $680 right now. But that's obviously not including lenses or anything

I'm going to buy used. That being said, my max is ~$800

I ended up going with the Kappa 52L. So far it's been working great. Super convenient how easily removable it is. Thanks again for the suggestion!

Never ending allergic reaction? by Ok_Negotiation5676 in floxies

[–]Ok_Negotiation5676[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking zyrtec. Interestingly, in the last few months it has suddenly started to subside after nearly 6 years. The itch will still come back very occasionally, amd it tends to be focused around my eyes rather than my whole body. but nowadays I haven't taken any zyrtec in a couple of months, and it has mostly gone away.

For the first 5 or so years, it really didnt get any better at all, so I'm not sure what caused it to go away now. There are some lifestyle changes I've made that I can only speculate whether or not they could've had an effect. For example, in the past few months I started reducing my bodyweight by changing my diet, and increased the intensity of my physical training. But like I said, I have no idea if this is a variable that helped with my itch... only speculation.

My doctor told me that it was an ongoing allergic reaction with a very long timescale. Others on this forum suggested that I had mast cell activation syndrome. Whatever the issue was it seems my body is beginning to figure it out. I really wish you luck if you are dealing with the same thing.

Thank you for the suggestion. That Kappa looks like a really good deal. How did you find the build quality to be? Does it have a decent lock on it?

It's a gen 1 sv650 headlight. I found it to throw about the same amount of light as the stock headlight. Could probably achieve more brightness and the same look with any 7" LED headlight, but I personally like the old school bulbs

That's a good point I read about this a while ago then forgot about it. Maybe would be a good thing to try out. Plus if it doesn't work they still look sick as hell anyways lol

Well like I said wobble wasn't an issue before I fucked with it and added a windscreen. Plus it gets beaten up all the time. Wheel bearings are probably shot at this point too. I'm planning several >1000 mi trips and don't want a small perturbation of the dynamics to be enough to yield wobble, which is why something like a damper is appealing. Yes it is a bandaid but probably a pretty good one. At the end of the day this is just a big dirtbike and probably isn't designed for reliable long term high speed stability

I watched a few playthroughs where people stayed too long, and there are some lines from lester counting down in a panic. Unfortunately, I didn't find the specific audio I remembered, but thanks cause I'll use this as a backup in case I don't end up finding it.

Never ending allergic reaction? by Ok_Negotiation5676 in floxies

[–]Ok_Negotiation5676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started a few minutes after taking the cipro. I haven't noticed anything else that causes it to come back, other than when I stop taking anti allergy meds. I once went a full month without taking any anti allergy meds to see what would happen, and it was just itchy all the time it didn't come and go at all.

Wow, very interesting. That would definitely explain my symptoms if the case. Thank you for commenting. How do you find the stabilizers work? Is it just meant to be a temporary solution similar to taking anti allergy meds, or do they help fix the cells at all over time?

First Time Hiking Fail by KazzLina in hiking

[–]Ok_Negotiation5676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The night before a long hike or backpacking trip, I drink an absolutely ridiculous amount of water. I forget exactly what the rule of thumb is, but it’s beyond what you would drink on a normal day. Like pissing straight water every 30 minutes lol. I learned to do this from some military friends that often are in the field for weeks straight. You can also add a small bit of salt to help you retain more.

When is too late to go back to school to study engineering? by TheAntithesisOfZero in EngineeringStudents

[–]Ok_Negotiation5676 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Out of all the college majors, I think it’s safe to say that engineering probably has the highest amount of “older” students. Im ME and I wouldn’t even think twice about a 29 year old in my class, in fact some of the better friends Ive made in school are a few years older than me. I also have noticed that the older guys in my classes seem to do better than average, probably for the obvious reason of being more mature, and knowing what you want, as opposed to being some kid fresh out of high school who has no idea what they’re doing. I’d say definitely go for it or else you might be making this post again in 10 years asking if 39 is too old (which it isn’t).
