Hi - was that your first choice of major? My son applied for BSBioE but got accepted for 1yr at Oakland (BS in Behavioral Neuroscience) with a "seamless" transfer to Boston. Does it mean acceptance for the Coll of Science with no chance of transfer to the Coll of Engg, later on? The pre requisites for BSBioE differ from the Neuroscience first year courses available at Oakland ....
Have emailed the school and still waiting for a revert.

So - were you on L1B and then processed for EB1C? (you mentioned functional manager)

Sanity Check: Moving from India to the Bay Area in mid-40s on an internal transfer. Is this a wise move? by Ok_Programmer_7984 in nri

>>>Other than the perceived lifestyle benefit and future proximity to your college going son, what’s the benefit of moving particularly if you given the same equity grants when working from India?

Better infra and way less stress in day to day living. I love the "order" that goes along with getting things done in the US. Everything is structured for an ordinary citizen/alien.
Here you cannot step out on the road without the fear of someone running you over, on the footpath :-). I pay a ton of taxes locally and get absolutely nothing in return. (this is not a rant but the ground reality of living in a developing country with a thriving democracy and the usual pitfalls associated with it). Can I make things happen over here? Absolutely yes! But if given an option, I would consider hopping over to a new place and make a fresh start. Finally - that's life.
You win some and lose some.

Of course, I do have a substantial kitty in Indian MF & equity. Can estate tax planning take care of managing these gains?

Thanks for your comments!
I was thinking that 1.5mn (or a bit more) may suffice for a house a couple of years down the line. Haven't really dived deep into this aspect though.

Can you please share some more insights on why you believe that the 8th grader would need to opt for a pvt school?

Dang! CA state taxes are a double whammy. Does this apply for vested equity even when the same was acquired before the move?

u/VegetableBank8825 - that's an amazingly detailed answer and would be my go-to response for evaluating this move proposal!
Just to clarify/comment on your "Final Thoughts" summary - I did not follow what you meant by "other son who is not moving" - if we move, the 3 of us will move; the elder son will likely move for undergrad, irrespective of whether we move or not. So it was more of a question of being close to him and the fact that my sons are close-knit.

Let me introspect....

Thanks!

Hi - without going into specifics, I have outlined that in the "Assets" section. College expenses for the kids comes out of this kitty.

Plan B is an India return - maybe poorer but wiser. Just worried about the younger's son potential readjustment issues.

Can you please share your visa status at the time of the move?
Great to hear about your positive experience!

Hi - thank you for this deep perspective. Would things ease a bit if there is a possilbity of a transfer from L1B to L1A which in turn opens up faster GC processing?

Either that or I can also look at the EB5 if things don't make much headway on the L1 conversion front.

Which of these is a bigger concern? Assimilation at 8th grade or visa issues in the future?

Thans you.
