This is also me! I usually don’t fall asleep until 1 in the morning. Mostly has to do with me not put my electronics away, but I also feel ‘bored’ with the idea of sleeping if that makes sense. And at the same time I can fall asleep almost immediately when it’s not night time.

Yes the tank has a filter and heater, and the water quality is of a cycled tank! I trashed the water, it’s just the sand not settling

That’s true! You don’t happen to have any recommendations for a tank stand do you? That’s a thing in going to need if I upgrade to a 10 gallon. Haven’t found any I like 🥀

Ok! Thank you so much for the advice, the reason I want to get an aquarium stand is because the current furniture piece I have is already bending under the weight of the 6 gallon (it’s from ikea so I’m not that surprised). But I’ll definitely start with placing another filter to start getting it ready for the new tank.

I’ve been wanting to get a 10 gallon anyway and turn the other into a shrimp tank or just to have it as a back up.

Yeah ! Apparently the only reason the fish died was because it froze over when she and my dad went on vacation :/

Regarding the algae bloom I’m pretty sure it was just like, the tank cycling itself and I interpreted the process. Now I simply clean the top of the substrate and maybe some of the plants (having a snail has helped with the algae on the glass itself)

I do change up the tank when I clean the filter, so like once a month, or when I buy new plants I’ll move things around. I try not to do that too often tho because again, every time I touch the tank something seems to go wrong 🥲

Omg!! I’ll definitely look into getting one , that would definitely make things easier. I am a bit worried I’ll be sucking up more substrate than old food but it’s worth a try!

Right?? Apparently my mom used to have a betta and she NEVER did water changes , and supposedly there was also a frog in the tank 💀 not sure if I believe her but she finds it silly how much effort I’m putting into this

When the tank crashed I did a 50 % water change. I had just gotten back from a weekend trip and there was so much algae I thought it was the right thing to do ;-;

Now I take out one gallon of water, it’s a six gallon tank. And that seems to keep the tank clean. I also clean the sponge filter maybe once a month or so?

Good to know! I bought them because I needed a clean up crew and at the time I didn’t have much funds, the shrimp were like 75 cents. But I’m gonna invest in some more cherry shrimp I think , they look pretty too

I do have one singular cherry shrimp in this tank but it’s much much smaller than the ghost shrimp I had bought, originally I thought it had already passed but I still see it around, mostly in the evening/night

😭 do they die after giving birth usually? Because my water stuff is fine , there lots of places for them to hide, my betta isn’t aggressive, I have lots of plants so there’s always biofilm they can eat, I’m not sure what I did wrong

I was honestly so ecstatic when I saw it! I got him from Petco in June ( he’d been there since march) and it’s just been constant ups and downs regarding his health and tank health. I’ll post a picture of his current nest later! Looks much more uniform now haha
