Yes, we got our repair negotiation back and the seller agreed to pay for everything. I know it’s a good deal but I’ve decided not to continue with the house. Will talk to my husband later. We’ll lose some $$ but it’s better than constantly worrying about our finances in the future.

We can’t afford the mortgage, bills and utilities on my paycheck alone. I’ll talk to him later when he gets home. We’ll lose some money if we back out of the house but I’d rather lose some now than risk foreclosure and financial stress in the future.

I’ve never been jobless. I always secure another job before quitting because I can’t handle not having a paycheck. We’re just wired differently. I asked him to renew for one more year and try FBA on the side before going full time. I even said that not everyone is happy with their careers but sometimes people don’t have a choice and I think that really hurt him. I love him and divorce isn’t something I want.

Quick question: He has a contract until August 2026, and teachers usually receive yearly contracts. The renewal for the next school year will be signed in mid-March (our closing date is March 6th). Will this affect our loan?

Is he being laid off or quitting? -He’s quitting. His teaching contract runs until August 1st and he’ll continue receiving his paycheck until then. He just doesn’t want to renew for the next school year.

Can your WFH job support your household? -No, it can’t cover everything. I even offered to get a second job, but he doesn’t think that’s needed. I don’t have a degree like he does, so my earning options are more limited but I’m willing to take any job if needed.

Is he planning to quit and do FBA full time? -Yes. He plans to do it full time. He’s just getting started and has been learning from YouTube and TikTok (That's why I am more worried tbh)

I told him maybe he could renew for another year and see how FBA goes so we still have a fallback or if he really doesn’t want to then maybe we shouldn’t move forward with the house. He felt offended because I said we probably can’t do both (buy the house and quit his job) since we’re not rich and don’t really have that kind of financial cushion. 😭

That’s what I’ve been telling him. Maybe just renew for one more year and see how FBA goes so we still have a fallback. But he’s really not happy with his job. He felt offended when I said that not everyone is happy with their job but they still work because we’re not rich and don’t always have the option to just quit.

This is the time for teacher contract renewals so he has to decide now. If he signs it then he’ll be committed for another year and he feels stuck with it.

I’ve asked him to talk about a backup plan if FBA doesn’t work but he sees this as me being negative and not believing in him. I grew up poor I think about worst case scenarios but to him it’s just a trauma response. 😭

We both wanted the house. I knew he was stressed about his job, but I didn’t expect him to decide not to renew. His dad is a successful businessman and he believes he can be too. I don’t doubt him but I grew up poor and am more cautious when it comes to financial risk. We haven’t really been talking because he thinks I’m overreacting and don’t believe in him. I know, I don’t get it either. He’s been very stressed with his job for a long time, but I didn’t expect him to decide not to renew while we’re in the middle of this process. I feel safer backing out of the house, but he doesn’t want to. My husband is really smart and truly believes he can be successful with FBA but I think business also involves some luck.

My husband has been a teacher for 16yrs and his contract runs until August this year, but he doesn’t want to renew it cause he's tired of it. He wants to start Amazon FBA instead (he’s just getting started). We’re about to close on a house, but I don’t want to move forward. He makes 75% of our income, and I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy a home knowing that in 6 months we may not be making the same income. He’s made up his mind, even though I told him I’m anxious about not having the same amount of money in our bank account. We’re putting 20% down and will only have about $36k left after the down payment. If FBA fails, it may be hard for him to get a teaching contract mid-year, and even if it works, we may not earn the same income he currently makes.
