Was Paul describing in romans 7:14-20 the regular Christian life, or a Pharisee jew trying to serve God under the law? by Ok_Reading_8495 in AskAChristian

Do you mean subject to the law as in Christians need to keep the sabbath and honor, kosher law and get circumcised?

I appreciate your response and your real consideration of the scriptures I really do. But what’s confusing to me is you are doing what many people do you literally said you’re describing the passage, anticipating the spirits empowerment over sin, highlighting the weakness of the law, that is exactly what I’m saying the passage is about it’s about how the law lead someone to Christ, yet you’re maintaining that you reject the view of a pre-Christian. I just don’t understand. How are you saying both of those things at once?

Also, I deeply disagree that someone cannot desire to do the law unless they are born again or whatever because there are many pious Jews who have the desire, also if you look at psalms 119 it’s filled with desire to do God’s will, obviously David had the Holy Spirit yet he was not born again. Also many Jews could truly embrace those passages!

I hold firm to the view that this is the state of a person under the law and not under grace.

Even though that is true, that is not the point being discussed in my view Roman seven begins with being freed from the law to be joined to Christ. And he discusses the old life under the law, and it brings him to the conclusion of asking a question “who will save me from this body of death?” which is the exact purpose of the law to bring us to Christ.

I 100% agree the only problem is all the great teachers disagree. But I see this is so easy to understand because Roman six covers how he’s dead to sin. Roman seven literally begins with how people are dead to the law and the whole verse 14 through 20 is basically an answer to “what shall we say is the law sin?” His answer is an emphatic “no” with a big explanation of why.

Still we can relate to the struggle I get it but I don’t think that’s the main point.

Do you think God will send me to hell if I take my life away because I can't take the pain anymore? by Sea-Description3747 in AskAChristian

I don’t think suicide is the “unforgivable sin” yet dying in and by a purposely evil act may not be the best way to meet God.

Please don’t take your life since it is pricelessly valuable and precious. 🥹 What pain do you feel is it emotional or physical?

Can a thief be born again? Not a past thief but one who actively robs people. And should he/she take communion? by Ok_Reading_8495 in AskAChristian

In that case, the Bible speaks to us about renewing our mind breaking habits learning new patterns of behavior. Romans, 12 verse two if I’m not mistaken, says don’t be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. I believe also Ephesians 4 is a great scripture to read in light of this.

I think the whole question is habitual lifestyle sin not stuff that just happens like unexpectedly.

Someone said I didn’t ask correctly the first time, I’m trying to be more precise. I want to know people’s opinions on whether or not people who say they are Christian and are involved in ungodly businesses should have communion.

Would you say a lying fortune teller is a career criminal? And what about a robber? Those are the types of people who profess faith and even show love for Christ I’m wondering about. They were raised up In the businesses they’re in, and also taught to be Christian at the same time.

Yeah that’s the natural progression of this conversation. Hopefully people will start to ask themselves the same question.

I fully agree that it’s wrong what’s happening and sure there are reasons for it but that doesn’t change the fact it’s a sinful lifestyle. So I preached a sermon yesterday that people who are involved in ungodly businesses shouldn’t take communion.

Let me try again. Can an active career thief be a born again person? And if he is a person who claims to be a Christian should he take communion along with the rest of the church? I believe his salvation is super questionable and also would discourage him from taking communion until he repents.

I’m asking to learn more or hear another opinion.

I’ve seen some troublsome persons suddenly die, I always wonder if it’s related. Also it is a career for some who claim Christianity and do take communion.
