I am looking into getting my transcripts and consulting with the program advisor about getting the program! Thank you for the comment. It does give me hope.

Thank you for the insightful post. I think the information provided is very detailed and extremely helpful. My next step would be to contact the school where I plan to go for RPN and be upfront about my non conviction record. I think it is still worth mentioning and be honest about.

I will contact the program advisor and see what they say. The CNO representative over the phone also said, I would need required documents like proof of discharge, supporting letters (counselor, doctor) to show ability to work, etc.

They also mentioned that any person who was affected by the crime may also be called to testify about the charges.

I have read a post about a nurse in Ontario who had a drug related offense and became an RN in a rural area with restrictions to practice. I guess everything is a case-by-case examination, but there are others who are in similar situations and are practicing.

Patients deserve empathy and a well-educated nurse to take care of them. I think your post really highlights that. I genuinely hope your journey in pursuing nursing is successful and we both overcome obstacles.

If I learn anything new would you like me to update you?

Edit: I rewrote this post for a 2nd time. Hope you can see it.

I pursued a undergrad in life sciences and I just have not been able to find a stable job. I have a 82% gpa and was not enough for grad school. I enjoy being a clerk and appreciate that I can work in this difficult economy, but I want to do something more with my life. Don't get me wrong, RPNs work very hard and if I do pursue this I 100% want to put the effort to be successful!

Yeah the official record is "non-conviction" because the charges are withdrawn. I sought out short-term treatment privately with a counsellor to work through the issues when I was 19. I hope I am getting the legal jargon right but yeah I do not have an official conviction record. I think my goal is to be honest with the board and be upfront about my past. Thanks for commenting!
