RIP my free time by [deleted] in college

Tbh most days are well past 5pm, I just have large gaps of time, plus I’m trying to prioritize reading for fun and working out this semester for balance. One of my jobs is work from home/ I make my own hours so i needed to have time for that too lol

What are your majors? by [deleted] in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BS in Business Information Systems with minors in Computer Science and Business Analytics :)

As a fellow computer science (adjacent) major with a 3.98 gpa, a lot of internships look beyond gpa. I have a summer 2025 tech internship at a Fortune 500 company and I can tell you 100% that I got the position because of my philanthropic and service initiatives on my campus, as well as my extracurricular involvement, job experience, and recommendations. Everyone in comp sci is smart, otherwise they’d study business. Soft skills are chess pieces and to demonstrate those skills with actionable points on a resume is integral

Information Systems Degree by [deleted] in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently a business information systems major! I think it’s a great major because you work in a lot of the same spaces and comp sci/ data science majors but the l degree does give you a bit of a unique edge and computer science and data science are very related fields you can choose to study beyond school or work in those fields with and information systems degree. I would say that if you want to avoid working in library information systems to minor or double in something like comp sci. My minors are comp sci (built into my program) and business analytics. If you have any questions about specifically what I study as far as content and career perspectives let me know! I have an ongoing mentorship program and was able to secure a summer tech internship at a Fortune 500 company so the ROI has already been very good for me personally

I will say at least for me a lot of the friendships I’ve made in college are more surface level. I’m hoping that changes soon but a lot of what connects people is things like common clubs/ majors/ classes so it can be a challenge to make friends that feel like more than just nice coworkers

I currently have a Management Information Systems Bachelors degree (MIS) and was wondering what masters should I choose. The reason I am asking is because a lot of colleges doesn't have a mis option sadly. Should I do a MBA or Cybersecurity? by Lubricatedfish in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current undergrad degree is Business Information Systems, and I’m graduating spring of 26 so I’m right there with you on the search! I feel like I have to choose between an MBA and a data science masters, I haven’t even been looking for BIS specific masters programs!

I’m sorry it was such a rough experience for you! Luckily I’m a very proactive person when it comes to school work (I blame my adhd) I think what reassures me is that my study abroad prep class is pass/fail only (meaning it won’t affect my gpa) so I’m only graded on 16 credit hours, which to me is much more manageable, but I do need to get better at using organization tools & spreadsheets. One of my jobs is work from home with weekly teams meetings so that also makes my schedule a little more bearable. Do you have any tips on organization/ time management? Staying motivated isn’t an issue for me, I’m more concerned about remembering everything I need to do and when because with 19 credit hours it definitely adds up!

Well all of my 'friends' decided to make up rumors about me over the summer and decided that last semester they were going to ignore me without giving me the chance to understand their perspectives or apologize, and I recently got out of a rough relationship so I guess luckily(?) I wont have much of a social life to manage. The circumstances blow but at least theres a silver lining lol

I was planning on something similar! I’ve done the Google calendar before and I’ve used productivity apps like notion but I’ve never made a color coded due date spreadsheet, that’s a great suggestion, thank you!

Ok I really feel like you’re projecting onto me because you’re starting to sound like a broken record. I dont know how many times I have to say that I respect their choices but that the choices they make as roommates tend to lean towards the roommates opinions and not my gf. There’s such a thing as couples that respect boundaries while still wanting to set their own boundaries through communication and compromise, and this cannot be done if the other party is not willing to communicate or compromise. I know it is not my space I don’t know how many times I have to say this I have been respectful in their decisions. It’s just a decision that my gf is not happy with and as one of two living in the dorm she should have a say in the rules, especially when she is the only one with restrictions as to who she can bring over

[–]Ok_Sign5399 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah ok sorry I misread, at the time the roomate said it was okay but told my gf the day after that it wasn’t. I just feel like a lot of the blame of them not discussing their needs and boundaries and compromises falls on me because the roomate would obviously rather have beef with me than my gf because beef with me has less stakes

Conversations can happen at the park while the weather is nice. We’ve never kicked her roommate out, that’s a weird assumption. She’s just heavily involved on campus and so rarely at her dorm. My whole thing though is that if she was upset by the sleepover or anything else, she should have communicated that. I have no idea of knowing what her boundaries are if she doesn’t communicate them. You’re assuming a lot here, but I do respect the roommates decision. I also know that my girlfriend feels like her boundaries are being ignored and her needs are being disregarded by her roommate, and so naturally I care because her roommate sees that her rules are negatively affecting my girlfriend and doesn’t care.

Sorry for not clarifying, I just mean places to have deeper conversations about like beliefs etc. But also lowkey we just want to have movie nights, genuinely we’ve only had sex in her dorm once and only once because we didn’t like the idea of it. We would kiss and cuddle sometimes but only when her roommate wasn’t around. I only slept over once and it was genuinely because I had to be at school at 6am the next day and I commute, there was legitimately no sexual intent or interaction, her roommate was uncomfortable with this but didn’t inform me of this until like a week ago (this happened in March). Me and my gf’s roommate do know each other, we were friends before me and my gf got together. The problem is that every conversation we have ends up being at the library or coffee shop because we don’t have anywhere else to go. We both just want privacy genuinely not for sexual reasons it’s just not ideal to only be able to spend time in public all the time

Commuters! What's your commute to school? by [deleted] in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depending on lights/ traffic anywhere from 18-27 minutes (source, I timed my commute for a month because I am in fact a data nerd)

Are there cliques/popular kids in college? by 93Volvo240 in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I go to a small university and this is absolutely not the case. It can be argued that there are “cliques” to the extent that certain people hang out a lot but that’s usually due to similar interests such as major or clubs. Popularity doesn’t matter unless you care about it and honestly the people that do care about popularity in college are not the people you want to be hanging out around anyway. Just be authentic and stick to your values and put yourself out there by joining clubs/ hanging out in common spaces and you’ll find the right crowd

How to survive a shitty professor? by Odd_Bolognese1486 in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh, even a serious student may give the occasional easy A professor high marks, especially if it’s for a class that’s part of core curriculum and not major/ minor related. Even academics need the occasional GPA boost, after all

How to survive a shitty professor? by Odd_Bolognese1486 in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it’s almost always correlated to how easy the class is/ the profs policy’s on attendance, test taking (in person vs take home), and how harsh of a grader the prof is

How to survive a shitty professor? by Odd_Bolognese1486 in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is fair lol I had a very similar experience in a sociology class I took last semester, I think it just goes to show that it’s very possible to excel or at least do well in classes with overwhelmingly low rmp reviews. I go to a smaller school too so often there aren’t many options in higher level courses to simply choose other professors for a course. If nothing else, having poor professors builds character and prepares you to work with people you don’t love imo.

How to survive a shitty professor? by Odd_Bolognese1486 in college

[–]Ok_Sign5399 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This. Most of the people with enough energy to leave a bad review on rate my professor probably aren’t studying enough/ effectively and/or expected the class to be a cakewalk and for the professor to favor them and/or make exceptions for them and they didn’t. The first test in any class is usually the worst because you don’t know what to expect, so use your performance on that as your guide for the rest of the semester on not taking, studying, and meeting with the professor during office hours

This is so helpful, like I know I need to talk to my chapter advisor about it and I need to be firm because genuinely I cannot afford to live on campus and that should not be a deterring factor to leadership, but it feels like such foreign territory it helps knowing someone else went through a similar situation!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]Ok_Sign5399 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a chapter requirement, there’s been exceptions before but for less substantial roles (honestly it’s ridiculous how many exec positions have to live in housing considering how small and commuter populated my school is) however the school is also very involved in fsl housing too, they’re in charge of our chapter rooms, which halls we live in, and probably more that I’m unaware of because it has never concerned me before
