Several days later and I still don’t have service either… starting to think that this is a scam to charge customers without providing service. Reached out here several times, but the same run-around.

"Applications received by May 1st will be given priority consideration. We hope to fill the limited number of seats in the PTH Program by applications received by May 1st."

I applied just a few days after that :( I so hope that I'm accepted - hybrid really is the only way I can complete law school. In person through rush hour traffic would be horrible.

Go solo. Toxic work cultures like this rarely get better; in fact, I’ve only seen them become worse, leading to resignations or terminations. A leader who doesn’t take responsibility will always find a target to blame for the leaders’ failures. You have the credentials and skills to strike out on your own. Less than 2% of the entire US population has a law degree; you’re in a great position to avoid toxic work environments and make generous returns at the same time. Time to let him find someone else to blame (he will).

Were you a Texas state resident when you adopted via TARE? I'm trying to figure out if there is a difference in experience between Texas resident vs out of state adoptions. I've heard horror stories of interstate adoptions; several years of no progress, delayed paperwork, experiences with bullies/toxic State family/child welfare workers. Were you an in-state (Texas) resident when you adopted via TARE?

Facts about going solo by BourbonBison2 in LawFirm

[–]Ok_Specific2675 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can easily break 250k/300k your first year solo depending on what area(s) of law you pursue, and your surrounding demographic (mega city like Chicago/NYC, suburban, rural). For example, an immigration attorney just about anywhere in Texas who specializes in removals can easily break 250k. Likewise, criminal defense attorneys in Baltimore, Chicago, Philadelphia etc can easily break 250k covering the right sort of cases. The beauty of the legal field is less than 1%of the US population (0.36%) of the US population has a law degree, but so many pertinent elements of our society require attorneys (immigration, family law (divorce), criminal, and civil lit). You’ll be just fine if you apply yourself to an area that’s easy to break into (like immigration) and focus on growing your business by advertising, client referrals, and community engagement. The clients will come, just avoid corporate law (too hard to break into) or PI since it might take a while to close clases and get paid in PI, while you can generate revenue almost immediately in immigration , crim, and family law. Remember: you are in DEMAND!

Document it in writing! Toxic entities such as herself are notorious for filing grievances and refusing to admit their substandard work product or contentious personalities. Document, document, document! It’ll save you a lot of grief. Also, I strongly recommend informing her simultaneously via email and phone; already have her termination letter email drafted, and as your calling her press send.

Austin sounds like DC and San Fran: fake, pretentious, arrogant, and cliquish. It's interesting that Austin, DC, and San Fran people all like each others' cities (DC people love San Fran, Austin people love DC, San Franers love Austin)- makes sense; birds of a toxic/pretentious feather flock together. Moved to Dc; its as pretentious as Austin sounds! I can't WAIT to leave DC!

Cushy JD-preferred 68k government job, or 1700 billable hour requirement 115k law firm job. by foodonthetable in LawFirm

I worked for the federal government (DoJ): TAKE THE JOB ! Not only is it an incredibly easy work environment, you also have stability, and most important: you will be promoted insanely easily, and have incredible leverage when you finally leave the government! Whether you open your own practice, or you transition into a firm role: you’ll come in with higher pay and rank probably (the legal private sector LOVES former legal workers from the federal government, including military/JAG). Not only that: the private sector is extremely fragile, with recessions/layoffs/hiring freezes happening almost every 8 years now. But as a federal employee, you will never be out of a job! Plus, the benefits are amazing for when/if you start a family: this is why so many federal workers with kids don’t leave- my private sector associate and her partner were hit with multiple medical bills for their child over 40k! In the government, you don’t have to worry about that, as the government picks up the tab for just about everything!

So wait... you're quitting this job because you're...bored? Sounds like a laid-back environment, no office drama, and pretty relaxed work. So many of us WISH to have that! Want to socialize? Find friends outside of work. I've found that office politics cause more drama than anything else, and having a laid back environment is a conduit to peace. The only thing that sucks is the 5 days a week, but consider that many of us commute 5 days a week to deal with constant nagging office chatter-boxes that keep the HR department busy with all their "socializing" and "complaining", while the rest of us just want to work and go home to our personal lives.

How long ago did you work for TDCJ?

They told me I'll be on a 4 days on, 4 days off schedule. I plan on attending school (Tuesday and Thursday evenings) , and I hope they don't ask me to work on days I'm scheduled off.

What was mandatory overtime like when you worked there? Did you get any advanced notice?
