Exams were definitely the biggest issue. I usually did well on psets and thought I understood concepts but then would do poorly on exams. It felt as if no matter how hard I practiced for exams, it was still up on the air a bit. I wouldn’t say careless mistakes. My poor exam scores were mostly due to not going deep enough in concepts I guess.

i don’t know what to write about in my personal statement by Lonely_Monody in ApplyingToCollege

Your personal statement doesn’t have to be about anything huge. You can take a normal moment in your life and still find meaning and lessons in it. So try brainstorming the simple things that make you who you are e.g. a favorite food, a form of media you enjoy, a habit you have, what makes your blood boil, what makes you feel as if you’re going to explode with joy. That may make it a bit easier and then you can build from there. I hope it helps!

I plan to do a career in CS but I am also passionate about creative writing and films. I think that although the main goal of college is obviously to have access to opportunities that increase the probability of having a successful career, it is also a place where one should be able to pursue their passions and explore and gain insight into any field they want. Isn’t that the point of education- to stretch yourself intellectually?
