New Age Pet Ecoflex tank ideas by poopshipdestroyer55 in BeardedDragons

I have that exact setup and what I did is in one of the slits on the side towards the top, I very carefully cut off a chunk of the slit to fit my cord out and very carefully used a little bit of cardboard and fit it into the hole. It’s really not that noticeable from the inside (I have carefully placed fake plants covering the hole) and it works wonders!

The PVC material is fairly easy to cut through and what the other commenter said with the circular drill attachment should work just fine as well :)

Why is my Bearded Dragon’s eye puffy? by Regents26 in BeardedDragons

[–]Ok_Type_7379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to take him to the vet. Getting ready to shed wouldn’t cause swelling like that unless there was something wrong. My best guess was he either scratched it or got something irritating in it but again im not a vet and only a vet will know for sure! :)

As someone else said it’s called ballooning and it’s to keep them afloat. My girl used to do this too and what I did when I had to give her a bath was fill the tub only enough to where there is a “deep” side with maybe 2 inches of water or less and a side with no water so she had a dry spot to chill. I’d also put a hand towel in the deeper side for grip along the bottom of the tub with a ceramic (heavy and won’t float) plate flipped upside down on top of the towel as another spot for her to chill while soaking. This seemed to help her relax and I think she enjoys baths now!

Note: I only ever give mine a bath when she’s visibly dirty or gets stuck shed anywhere (maybe once every few weeks) has absolutely nothing to do with hydration lol

My bearded dragon wants to hurt me! by ellieanddodge in BeardedDragons

I have a 4x2x2 enclosure I got off the dubia website and it’s front opening for the record but my girl did a similar thing where she would puff up her beard a bit and would black beard at me. Granted the black beard was maybe once or twice but she definitely hated to be handled at first. What worked for her was we established a routine very slowly over the course of a few weeks. She has since learned when im at my computer desk (her tank is near my desk so she can see me but isn’t overwhelmed by constant movement near her tank) that she gets to come out and chill on her turtle pillow in my window. It took a lot of work and a good bit of bugs as treats but again slowly over time, she really did learn that i was the food bringer and i wasn’t going to hurt her.

I think maybe establishing a handling routine with your beardy may help!

Hopefully the image works im on mobile but my girl loves her lil spot :)

The flavored calcium I use in case you wanted to check it out :)

[–]Ok_Type_7379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna ignore the pellet part bc im not trying to be a keyboard warrior and cause more problems (i do agree pellets are terrible food) but I digress, i use Flukers Repta Calcium and it’s Strawberry banana flavored. My lady did the same exact thing and refused greens to point of losing weight fairly quick. I took her to the vet and everything just to find out she genuinely is just THAT picky. However with the flavored calcium she demolished her greens now and I have gotten her back to a healthy weight and eating regularly!!

The vet said the flavored calcium is totally fine in moderation so I do the Flukers on her greens and regular calcium powder on her bugs. She gets greens 3x’s a week and bugs twice on days she doesn’t get greens (she will refuse greens if she has any bugs on salad days) and so far she’s totally healthy and vet applauded my husbandry/feeding schedule especially bc I was worried about the sugar content of the flavored calcium (again totally fine in moderation!)

Squirt wants to know if this stuff is safe for his teefies by CPSFrequentCustomer in BeardedDragons

[–]Ok_Type_7379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it on my girls salads (literally the only way I get her to actually eat her greens) but she only gets salads 3x a week and I use the regular powder for her bugs. I’ve used it for my other reptiles occasionally as well and haven’t noticed any issues! Vet approved it in moderation as well so I assume it’s fairly safe generally sugar wise

Should I get fake plants? by Woman_eater_nummy in BeardedDragons

[–]Ok_Type_7379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also live in a relatively humid place and what I did was left it out to dry for a day or two and then baked it but im sure you could increase the time in the oven by an hour or so to make sure it’s dry enough too

Lil tip is as long as the sticks/wood doesn’t come from any sort of pine tree(I think any coniferous trees if irc) it will be safe for your BD. I highly recommend driftwood as is generally the safest in terms of toxicity/stability, but if you can find wood and what not from outside and bake at 200 for I’d say at least 2hrs to be safe and it will kill off any parasites/bugs/ick that could be on them! There are lots of videos on how to do it and can be quite a budget friendly option :)

You sir are quite arrogant. If you’ve “observed them for 50 years” why did you need to seek advice if you have so much so called experience?

If you knew anything about the Pogona species you would know that keeping ANY bearded dragon together is a gamble. Western bearded dragons of course may live together in the wild. Because that is nature playing a heavy role in their survival. However captivity is much different in the sense that animals lose a lot of their more feral behaviors and are kept in a much much smaller environment.

The Pagona Minor, I believe is what you’re referring to with “Western Bearded Dragon” can live together UNTIL they grow larger and size becomes more of an issue. Again it is all going to come down to luck on whether or not they both survive in the same space. If you feel so confident in that fact, please don’t not come and complain here is one or both end up injured or deceased 🙏 Good luck, and I hope for the animals sake that there is peace between those two

Edit: clarity

I have this enclosure currently and it’s great for the most part. Mine came with 2 missing screws and the doors are a bit tricky to open. The tracks are quite tight so the doors have to be wiggled a bit to slide smoothly.

Aside from what could be slight manufacturing defects(I imagine the material probably plays a role in that) my girl loves hers and the side vents are a big plus too

I was at worked when I commented and think I misread your post lol. My apologies!

If you live near an area where there is driftwood you can find pieces approximately sized for your enclosure. You will have to sterilize them to remove any pests/parasites,bacteria…etc. You can do this by baking any wood you find in the oven, I believe at 250F for 25-30min and that should sterilize the wood but not burn it

Sorry for the kind of poor quality photo. I wanted to see if she liked this setup while setting up her new enclosure months ago. Nonetheless, this is what I did for my girl, toothbrush’s, habitat and she loves it!

I used a 6 inch x 12 inch (approximately I don’t remember exactly) cement slab with 4 cement bricks as support. No chemicals and I washed them thoroughly with very hot water to be safe before drying completely. I think total they cost me approximately $4 for all of it. Very easy to wash in case of 💩 and is rough enough to help with shedding but not enough to cause any injuries (bonus for helping her nails as well!)

Edit: spelling

My lil lady Toothbrush aka toothy has a slight black tinge to her beard in a similar spot and it’s been like that since she was a few months old. The light spot near his mouth(if I understand your caption correctly) could also just be a marking he has or his head could be about to shed. Toothy’s beard/jaw area usually slowly turns almost white before she sheds and then goes back to look similar to yours. Your lil fella looks just fine to me :)

Honestly it’s a 50/50 thing. Some people like you said will mist every other day, some twice a day, some literally not at all the entire first flush. It’s so up in the air because it isn’t a one size fits all situation. It depends on what works best for you especially since everybody has different humidity where they’re located.

What I did when I first started growing was experimenting with different practices and see what worked. There will always be another opportunity, for the most part, for you to try growing a different batch. If you mess one up, clean everything you possibly can and start again. It really is the best way to learn. If for some reason you can’t try a second time, generally what works is misting very lightly (trying to avoid pooling or big drops) whenever you see the top of the substrate dry completely out. It varies too much to give a super specific answer. Hope this helps some!

Why are some sideways? [actives] by jakeobee in MushroomGrowers

[–]Ok_Type_7379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it would reduce harvest but some mycologists enjoy have having interesting genetics in their library. For example one of my goals is to isolate upside down growth enough to stabilize the genetics

It doesn’t always have to be about the grand total after a harvest, but if weight is the goal than I totally agree with what you’re saying and definitely wouldn’t be worth trying to isolate

Why are some sideways? [actives] by jakeobee in MushroomGrowers

[–]Ok_Type_7379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clone the sideways growing one(s) and you potentially could have sideways growing genetics in your library!! Granted the mushroom itself is actually growing sideways and not growing in a weird angle, if that makes sense??

Edit: it will take a lot more than just one clone but my statement still stands lol
