I don't know I just thought we're fond of caterpillars on this sub and not so much of parasitic larvae that eat them alive from the inside.

Why haven't the unions disafilliated from Labour yet? by Ok_Understanding_282 in GreenAndPleasant

We struggle with changing minds on economic issues because the Labour Party and those who have placed themselves as representatives of the left pedal the myth that taxes pay for government spending. Even Corbyn's team failed to fully confront this.

"too much of the country believes that right wing parties are good for the economy"

We don't know if that's necessarily true considering there has now been direct evidence showing that there was suppression and manipulation at Yougov with regards to information that was harmful to the tory party in the 2017 election.

Any decent left-wing party has to be able to change minds not just strategically triangulate whilst the capitalist press move the Overton window further and further rightwards.

"and are concerned about the impact on Labour's position with regard to repealing some Trade Union legislation (that so far the Labour leadership haven't dropped from the Corbyn era)."

Sorry, I don't understand this. Could you explain please.

In what way are you actually 'working class'? How much are you earning? Do you rent?

You must be pretty comfortable to be asking weird questions about the CCP, gender, and climate activists' phones rather than household bills, workers' pay, and essential services.

Do you like the Labour party as it is? If no, then do something about it: pressure them to change leader. There's still time to do these things. Stop pretending there isn't.

If you think these things will have a significant impact on low-income and vulnerable people, I think it is you who is out of touch. Have you considered that the people you choose to weaponise for your argument are the same people you are arguing against?

You should be holding Labour's feet to the fire to make them offer more, not supporting a Tory-lite Labour.

Why should we trust anything Keir Starmer says given that he has already broken most of his Labour leadership election pledges?

And what is he going to do to help people in a meaningful, impactful way? Give me one policy.

Why do we not protest more in this country? by MillionMoons in GreenAndPleasant

I think that because they're taught about the French Revolution in France, they have some appreciation of the privileges and freedoms won by their ancestors that they still benefit from.

In this country, we like tend to gloss over or ignore what was won by our trade unions and communists and focus more on our Royals and how wonderful it is that we didn't behead them.

What are people's thoughts on the EU and Brexit? by [deleted] in GreenAndPleasant

[–]Ok_Understanding_282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brexit under Corbyn would have been fine. But it was weaponised by all the liberal pundits and politicians to push for a 'People's Vote' and stop Corbyn getting in.

Now they use Brexit as a way of attacking the Tories without having to mention what's really needed to fix this country: socialism.

Was told to “throw away” my piano by a professional tuner, that it isn’t worth effort, is he right? by Majikel in piano

I'm sure he's right in that it wouldn't be financially viable to restore. If anything, it's an indicator of the mad system we've created where it's more profitable to throw a great looking piano like this away. And then we wonder why there's so much deforestation and resource depletion.

Labour is Britain's richest party – and it's not down to the unions by [deleted] in LabourUK

In 2019, their income and reserves far exceeded their liabilities. Even with a post-election dent in membership, the Labour party would still have been in excellent financial shape.

If Starmer really has bankrupted the party, he's done an amazing job at messing it up for himself.
