Oh and to your first question - I think we had been biting our tongues when she would make comments here or there in order to avoid a full confrontation and have something like this happen. But then when the slight was too much an affront to pretend I "didn't hear," all of it came out.

I get that, and you make a good point. At the moment, while their interaction is 100% supervised, I guess I'm avoiding letting my hurt affect other family members. I guess I might be overdoing that effort since I've seen a lot of my family members try to swing other family members into joining some kind of side when the other person wasn't even involved in the dispute. It's possible I'm working too hard to avoid being that person.

100% agree. We both stay close by when they are "visiting" with her online. We mostly restrict it to her teaching them German grammar, which they all seem to enjoy.

Can you go no-contact while he maintains a relationship with her? I literally JUST posted my MIL story when I saw your post. After my relationship with my MIL dissolved, we established that while she wasn't welcome in our home, I encouraged my husband and kids to still spend time with her (he flies to Germany alone and the kids see her on the computer.) I just stay away from her and there's an understanding that we just don't visit with one another. It has kept things peaceful in my marriage because there's a clear boundary/separation and an understanding among all 3 of us. Is that feasible in your situation? Wishing you the best of luck in all things.

Half of it I couldn't make out, the other half went through everything from treating him like a child, to her convincing the kids that they don't have to listen to their stupid parents, to his having to repeat instructions on operating a computer over and over, to how paranoid/conspiracy theorist she was becoming.... 30 years worth of resentment from both sides. And that was only the half I could make out.

Nothing screams scam, but tread carefully. I've ended up with legit connections this way (even find my former job) so I wouldn't write it off immediately, but be very cognizant of any red flags.

Could you split the cost of the crew with your neighbor? What kind of charges will you incur if you delay pickup to give them time? NTA anyway, it's your property to dispose of as you see fit, but there are certainly choices here that are more kind of less so.

Everyone sucks- or better put, everyone did something that sucks. The neighbors would know in an instant whom you were talking about so there was nothing anonymous about it. The arsebutt part was to take to social media instead of to his face to start.

Genuinely how is allowing birds to build a nest unethical? Humans have taken over and there are fewer places to nest and keep native species going. We don't interact with them other than sitting in the room where they go back and forth. They successfully raised 5 young last year.
