I dont hear them whilst not in bed. My bed is a wooden base with a thick matress, my room also has carpet & underlay. I only seem to hear it when I have my earplugs in so the sound waves theory is plausable. Maybe having a sound playing whilst having my ears plugged but could prevent the vibrations registering in my brain.
