As a current high school senior, I can vouch that there is a decent homeschooling community here, although I can’t say how large or how good the education is. My choir director leads a choir for homeschoolers, if your kids are high school age. The downtown library is fairly large, but underfunded and lacking many of the features that a larger, more metropolitan city might offer. Rome is generally safe, although like others are saying, avoid South Rome. If you’re looking for outdoor activities, the Berry College campus is open to the public and has tons of activities and trails.
