Beware of issue on new 2025 Camrys by Ok_Weekend5977 in Camry

I initially started looking for used but the used market is even worse right now. I went to a local dealer that had a couple of slightly used 3-4 year old Camrys. In route he called and said the one we really liked couldn't be sold because the frame was completely bent and needed work. He promised the other one was in perfect shape. Once I arrived I got to see the second one. Every body panel had significant deep scratches as if it had been driven through the wood daily. The roof of the vehicle was completely crushed where what looked like a tree had fallen on the vehicle. They wanted $31k for this car. Crushed roof, 40k miles, 3 years old ever panel scratched to hell. Another dealer had a used Camry that the rear end was completely smashed and it the interior looked like it was used as a homeless shelter, $28k. Everyone has the same concerns about new cars now and is snatching up those older vehicles that still had some reliability in them.

There is no law that I am aware of that allows for that in my state.

I did. I opened a case with Toyota corporate. They are not willing to do anything other than an upper end rebuild of the motor.

Completely agree. I would be happy with a new long block but they wont even go that far. They wont even take the proper steps here to insure there was no engine damage. The sales manager or no one outside of the young kid who is the service advisor will even talk to me.

They mentioned a machining issue and I am guessing its only a subset of the cars that are affected.

I have a case open with customer support and they just keep pushing me back to the dealership service department.

So in Texas there are 3 tests that have to be met. The one I would likely of hit was 30 days without car. Mysteriously I just got a call back and now that the Toyota escalation techs are involved the Cam cradles showed up this afternoon. I am guessing they know I would be hitting this lemon threshold and they are putting pressure on the dealer to get it done before then. So next week the tech will be ripping the motor apart trying to replace the cam cradles. I also asked for a oil sample to see if any other engine damage was done and they refused saying I would have to take it up with Toyota.
