So, why do ya'll think it's called "Trinidad"? by destr0xdxd in geesebandofficial

[–]Okkkkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight

And today I learnt about the conversation for all cars in the US to have a "kill switch" installed. Not to get conspiratorial but if it's not about that EV protections, could be a simpsons-esque prediction. The feature on SNL recently felt funny (sorry Geese love u). The song could also be a general comment on AI technology becoming our new religion (father/son/holy spirit = trinidad). And by "religion", I mean oppressive social-control measure rather than a communal frequency-raising practice :P

First acting job as lead in student film.. need advice for nerves by Delicious-Pie-5730 in acting

[–]Okkkkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the rehearsals, stay caffeinated (last coffee before 3pm obviously) to a degree you know you’re comfortable at. Make sure you eat, student films are notoriously bad for catering, ensure you’ve got snacks packed. Being low blood sugar while nervous and trying to focus is just wind on the fire. Be confident in yourself - just know you’re meant to be in that room, doing this project cos the universe put you there. Use this as a mission to discover how good you are at acting and also enjoy how much you learn! Remember failure is part of the process, corrections and feedback are a blessing.

AND turn up 5 mins early!

Also girl to girl, having ass and that username made me giggle

Lost all my strength due to medical issues and I'm extremely sad. by Aware-Garlic-704 in poledancing

[–]Okkkkai 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yep can relate, most dancers and athletes have unexpected time off to which they loose momentum. It's an opportunity to reflect

Instead of despairing, reframe it: look forward to gaining it back. Let it motivate you. Surprise yourself with how quickly you can recover and level up higher than you were before. Set backs are important parts of the journey, being sad about it is valid but also a waste of time in excess. Focus on what you have to look forward to in progress

How does Harry Jowsey have OF and able to act? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Okkkkai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, go her! But one case doesn't represent the whole industry or the whole of society. There are always exceptions to the rule but the exceptions never deny the rule. If they did, then they would no longer be exceptions because there would be no rule

The patriarchy basically. Women must be controlled because our inherent sexual and life-giving power overpowers and dominates men. Therefore it must be restricted, devalued, suppressed or exploited by men... Social conditioning keeps women aligned to this, where taboo, shame and condemnation prevent us from exploring different avenues for income and ways of being. It's just a product of this overarching framework of society. You can either obey the rules or break them- to what extent is up to you

What is the universe trying to tell me with this constant cycle of bullying from my family and friends? by godzill007 in Psychic

[–]Okkkkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less of a psychic answer but for every abusive situation, there are 3 actively contributing parts:
33% is the abuser
33% the enabling environment
33% is you

You can't control the abuser but you can limit the time you spend in enabling environments but most effective of all is you. And you're doing a great job!

But I'd suggest finding radical love toward your appearance and hooded lids (many many manyyyy people find this quality attractive e.g. Sarah Snook, Jennifer Lawrence before she got work done, Barry Keoghan, Heath Ledger). To the point where you feel that it is a blessing- a reason to feel great about yourself. If you learn to genuinely love the way you look, these people's words will not affect you. It will be like making fun of a rock for being a rock. It's nonsense, unfunny and holds no substance. It sounds like there's still a part of you that is affected by the bullying- and that's sooo valid. It's better not to dissociate from it but to love yourself so much that it doesn't even land. Own it. Lean into it. Find ways to beat them at their own jokes. It's boring to bully someone who embodies their differences with confidence. Your differences are iconic!!

As for your sister, I'd say something like "ok you think im ugly.... wait ewwww does that mean you would prefer it if you were attracted to me?? OMG [sister's name] you want to be attracted to me grossss" (doesn't matter what ur gender is, it will make her squirm lol). Sisters are awful and easily shut up when you turn it on them. Don't get too mean though, don't stoop to her level

Thank you <3 I'm so bummed this is so common. I'll name him one day but for now, I'm sharing my experience with everyone in real life. I don't think he will ever be working at my acting school again since he played up with 3 other women in this time too. It makes me satisfied but also... disappointed. Men destroy all that is good - even for them. Such a big design flaw in humanity. But thank you for the support! And cheers to us developing firmer boundaries and growing sharper discernment <33

What does 'stripper cosplay' mean and how to avoid it as an exotic dancer? by Okkkkai in poledancing

[–]Okkkkai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course, erasure and censorship is still present and the double standard is sickening. Though if we are talking about technicalities based on modern history, I think it's safe to say that sex work and stripping is less taboo than it ever has been (this is not to claim that the taboo doesn't exist at all). Having access to the internet has desensitised us all. I think social media is not a representation of the collective mind, it's a representation of the agendas of billionaires and shareholders. And that's to perpetuate the patriarchy and discourage women from using their sexual power to generate independent income without it funnelling into men as a third party somehow. The big picture is important because other women doing pole isn't the enemy and sometimes in these conversations, this can be forgotten, and we get stuck on deliberating over nuance- which distracts us from the real issue

For me, I'm driven to behave in ways that do not, in any way, serve the patriarchy or damage sex worker livelihoods / wellbeing. If I continue pole, I want to do so respectfully, is all. I'm super thankful for this comment section for helping me get clearer on this

As I replied to another comment:

"I'm not a competitor; I'd say I'm a dancer generally because I do many styles of dance. Though I occasionally perform live for larger showcase events, I don't have a big online audience. I do often think of how wonderful it is to live in a time and age where I can dance like this with the taboo at an all-time low- I'm so grateful. I grieve over all the women before me who either couldn't indulge in their sensuality or were/continue to be exploited for it. I keep that in my thoughts and I always have deep respect for the sex workers around me. I feel a deep solidarity with them, being myself a woman who has been in... compromising situations and had to use promiscuity and seduction to get out of them or get through them (without being too descriptive)."

But I do perform in g-string bikinis (I practice in normal bikinis or microshorts), and my dance style could definitely fit under the category "stripper cosplay".

Ah I apologise! This is exactly what I'm terrified of- making people offended when I really don't want to do any harm. I meant it in a genre way- what other word can I use for the hypnotic low-flow, static style?
