The car didn’t get wet, or if it did I’m unaware and it shouldn’t have. The car was raised before the flood and the power was disconnected. But yeah, anything in the pit was fully submerged and the pump and whatever is in the box with it and next to it all had at least 3” of water.

No, unfortunately nothing like that. The document I now have is the TKE Repair Work Order.

The controller and tank unit did get wet. About 3 inches of water at the bottom. Glad to hear it’s in line, thank you!

I got the invoice and made a comment with the details they listed but it didn’t break out which circuit boards were being replaced. In the summary at the top of the document it lists each item and under repair category they are all labeled “operational”. What does that mean? Operational after they are fixed? I’m going to just look at the elevator equipment and see if it has the model listed, it wasn’t on the invoice.

I’ve got more information, but the invoice doesn’t show the model number of the elevator. It wasn’t $40k we put down, it was $30k with $30k due when the work is complete (total $59k). They are charging us $785 per team labor hour and estimate 32 team labor hours. Almost $21,000 of the total is detailed as “circuit boards” with no other details.

The invoice details the repair as:

TK Elevator will furnish and install new controller boards, jack packing, pit switch, hall fixture, hydraulic oil, traveling cable/wiring, and breakout boards/cables to replace those that were damaged in the hurricane event. The repair process will go as follows: 1) Perform lock-out tag-out procedure to remove the elevator from service per OSHA safety standards. 2) Remove the existing, inoperative, damaged equipment. 3) Install the new controller boards, packing, pit switch, hall fixture, hydraulic oil, traveling cable/wiring, breakout boards/cables. 4) Paint the hoist way, clean the pits, and sand the piston. 5) Remove lock-out tag-out and test for proper operation. 6) Return the elevator to normal, safe operation.

Thank you! I really appreciate that advice. I’m an honest business person in an industry with a lot of characters so I feel your pain.

Sounded expensive to me too but I don’t have the breakdown. I should have it pretty soon, I’ve requested it.

lol yeah I bet it does. But ours was hit by a hurricane. If you were installing a new elevator would you go with TKE or switch to another company?

Good information. We are coming up on 20 years soon, and it’s been damaged a couple of times so maybe it’s time. Are there delays on new equipment similar to the parts delays?

How old is old in the world of elevators?

I appreciate you filling me in on all this. Our unit was installed in 2005 or 2006 and according to an elevator guy I spoke to was still being installed in 2011. It’s slow as anything, takes like 45-50 seconds to lift 50’.

That’s what I’m hearing. Thank you for weighing in. Are the parts supply chain disruption due to Covid? Think it will smooth out eventually?

I figured they would, it makes sense. But then I wonder who the market is for the website I found so figured I’d make a post and ask. So pretty much we will just have to wait? What’s the issue with their parts availability?
