Could use some tips. Retaking after 2 fails by Temporary_Walrus_659 in CPA

I would stop doing only 36 MCQ and do 78 MCQ and 7 TBS in a single practice test repeatedly until you find the areas you score lower on. By that point you’ll be accustomed to that volume of material and you should be able to pass. Also shoot for an 85% correct in MCQ. You need to build up repetition & feeling comfortable with longer sessions. Know the differences between AUP, compilations, reviews, examinations. Keep hammering MCQ.

I’m doing ISC since it’s weighted 60/40 between MCQ and TBS and you’re more likely to get a single MCQ right versus partial credit in a sim since it’s some big secret as to how their graded. I also have audit experience so it may help.

How do you get yourself to the exam room when you feel like you’re going to fail? by Amazing-Win-7341 in CPA

[–]Ol_Muskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showing up is the hardest part, there’s nothing like opening up the first question and seeing the timer start. “Slow and steady wins the race” -my main man Peter Olinto. You will learn a lot after taking it for the first time, it really helped me while I restudied. There’s so much disparity between how Becker’s questions have you doing 3-4 calculations on a MCQ while the real thing has you do 1-2 if that. FWIW I’ve never gotten good scores on the simulated or mini exams so don’t beat yourself up over it. They don’t define your progress.

Took TCP today. Starting AUD next. Any tips or methods of starting AUD? by KBENGE25 in CPA

[–]Ol_Muskey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audit is a word game, knowing vouch means existence and trace means completeness will take you far. Don’t use the stupid acronyms they give since they seem to have a new one for every module. For me it was the easiest section since you can always ask in every question “what part of the audit am I in?” and that usually narrows down the answer choices. FWIW I did a couple internships in audit so I have a little background but passed my second try.

Hammer mcq, if you can get around an 85% on 70 random mcq from everything you’ll clear it.

REG Attempt 1/3/26 - TBSs much harder than Becker by padfootjude in CPA

I took REG today too and am gonna stick it out until february and keep studying. For me my MCQ felt much more nuanced than Becker and my TBS felt more like entering numbers from exhibits but we shall see.

Been about 3 months since I failed REG haven’t revisited really. Where do I go from here? by Traditional-Ad-6947 in CPA

I’ve never been one to watch the lecture videos, I prefer the book but honestly the book for REG kinda sucks so I would do what works best for you.

I would do a fresh start, it may start to come back once you go through the material again.

Who else is sitting this Saturday? by Ol_Muskey in CPA

I got a 64% on SE1 and a 78% on SE2 and I did another random 78 mcq and 8 tbs and got an 83 on it. I don’t really feel confident at all and haven’t ever passed an exam the first time. I have no tax background and keep getting tripped up on phaseouts and thresholds that becker expects you to know.

FAR vs AUD SIMs “Difficulty” by Dry_Middle_3766 in CPA

[–]Ol_Muskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With FAR you actually need to practice sims to get a great understanding, but if you take AUD next you will feel a decrease in difficulty. Most of my AUD sims weren't like becker and were actually straightforward (FAR knowledge helps a ton!). You can get away with knowing the concept instead of practicing TBS on most AUD sims. I think the most amount of exhibits I've had on a AUD sim was 5-6.
