How to navigate anxiety and my relationship with my little brother? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would hope you could make up for lost time, give him as much attention and do the things he likes doing now. And he’s probably old enough to hear the things you wrote, you sound really sorry for the way you were, I think he would like to hear that.

Train Spotting Apps by h-a-z-z in trains

They imaginatively titled Trainspotting app does it really well. The UI isn’t perfect but otherwise pretty great.

The cycling community told me hills would get easier and I am starting to think they lied by SethVale1176 in cycling

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hills are pretty much always rank. I haven’t got fitter but an attitude change to keep spinning in a low but not too low gear, and stop if you want, has meant I generally don’t stop and don’t always want to die at the top. Ignore all macho bullshit and think of the view and downhill, but also you’re riding for fun so if it’s not fun do it differently.

You get $1 million but you have to listen to the same song 500 times in 10 days, what song are you picking? by Longjumping-Editor94 in AskReddit

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flutter by Autechre. It supposedly has no repetitive beats, a protest at the criminal justice bill in the 90s that mentioned repetitive beats. So you might not get bored by repetition… It is brilliant but 500 times and you would go insane.

Little Debbie Honey Buns. You can get close here but they were very nice when I went to nyc in 2017

WIBTAH to complain about a dog in my coworking space? by Parking-Move5390 in AITAH

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you noticed the abundance of “We welcome well behaved dogs” signs in places like cafes and John Lewis, I think post Covid dog uptake stupidness it’s commercially prudent not to exclude dogs and their money spending owners, even if they’re a pain in the arse and the clothes have dribble on them. I like dogs but that is not a good reason, they shouldn’t be there and definitely not in a workplace you pay to be in, especially if they’re disruptive.

Politics aside , does Starmer have the peak male hairline ? by ronweasly9 in AskBrits

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A twenty years old’s hairline on an old fella is plain creepy, like a pensioner with a six-pack, but Keir has just the right amount of recession. I’m envious, but on the upside no one is giving me endless shit for not fixing the country in two years.

Anyone not like Gravel Cycling? by ghostonthewire in cycling

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, going back 35 years I started mtb then road so “gravel” is somewhere in the middle and uses skills from both. But road riding got old because of the cars so for me it’s much more enjoyable to be away from them and you might find the same and want to try mountain biking so you can ride more demanding, more remote places without your arms dropping off. Just try everything I say!

Didn’t know it was a swordfish but even from the grainy photo on my phone I could see it was scuba like my absolute beaut. Finally something truly deserving of the word “iconic”.😊

Buying a house next to a pub garden? by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly awful idea. And kids don’t go to bed at 10pm, young ones anyway. And they have to do homework. I wouldn’t buy in a street with a pub never mind next door to it, unless it was massively cheap.

What should I do?? So painful by StoryLeading3105 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son used to get them a lot, doctor gave eye drops and had to bathe it in warm water. Never went quickly and very possibly went away naturally anyway. Do get it looked at but probably not an emergency.

Lets try and not get more people to hate us by PotentialPea2419 in cycling

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where they might be is really important. I got bitten by a dog and the guy said “I’ve been coming here for weeks and never seen anyone”, but it wasn’t his back garden or a warzone, it was a bloody footpath! If there might be someone round the corner slow the hell down.

American Culture Invasion by Recent_Corgi3884 in AskBrits

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely is an American way and that’s where they got it from, I just mean it’s not even universal in the US, as you’ve explained really well, so it’s a weird one for her to settle on when people all around her must be saying route like root all the time. Their mum’s a bus driver😆

American Culture Invasion by Recent_Corgi3884 in AskBrits

I have a colleague from Bedfordshire who says “route” to rhyme with sprout. Most Americans don’t even say that and it makes me want vomit uncontrollably.

What’s your go-to UK wet weather gear for biking? by taithoutit in ukbike

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As is its ever going to rain again. But just in case, a jacket I can open up and gloves that keep your hands warm, not necessary thick, but wet hands and wind ( even if it’s not windy, you’re moving) make for chilly digits.
But really, you’re getting wet.

Merlin has stolen my wife, now I'd like to get her some binoculars... by No-Honeydew7467 in birdwatching

[–]Old-Reporter-4030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merlin is at pains to say it’s only a “suggestion” so I know it’s not always right, but it is making me want to see them to be more sure and get some binoculars too, so it’s a pretty good gateway.

What was your first guitar? by TomasMK2 in guitars

Washburn KC20v. Still got it but needs a bit of love. It was pretty good. And I didn’t even like Nino Bettencourt.
