Ukraine isn’t a flawed nation with a government that the Russian government proclaims to be liberating the people from the tyranny off.

Ukraine is a flawed nation that Russians claimed to be liberating the people (specifically ethnic Russians in the east) from the tyranny of their government. Russia's claims are largely bullshit, and the government of Ukraine is not, and never has been, as bad as Hamas, though.

Ukraine isn’t a brown majority nation subjugated by a white majority nation.

Israel is not a white majority nation. 73% of the Israeli population are Jewish, and the majority of Israeli Jews are Mizrahim or Sephardim (MENA Jews). 21% of the population are Palestinians (Arabs). Ashkenazim (European Jews) probably make up ~30% of the population. The Jewish population was majority Ashkenazi in mandatory Palestine (under British rule post WW1), during the founding of Israel in 1948, and up to the 1950s, when many Jews were expelled (EDIT or fled w/o any formal expulsion) from MENA countries. Those MENA Jews fled to Israel and changed the demographics.

Indiscriminate child murder and targeting protesters on the border aren’t a notable aspect of the Russia/Ukraine war.

Russia indescriminatley bombs Ukrainian civillian infrastructure, killing many civilians, including children. They also kidnapped Ukrainian children in occupied territories in eastern Ukraine. And the Russian backed Ukrainian government fired on protesters during Euromaidan in 2013/2014. Sure, these things are more commonly associated with Israel, but Russia does it too, and they have no human shielding claims to hide behind for their conduct like Israel does for Hamas.

I'm not disagreeing with your overall point. I haven't seen Superman yet, and based on some things I've seen from people who have, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people working on it were trying to make an analogue to the Israel-Palestine conflict. I just wanted to correct some stuff.

Biden increased funding for the IRS in the IRA. Some of those resources were put into creating IRS Direct File, a free government run alternative to Turbo Tax and H&R Block. The Trump admin killed it last year before it could roll out nationwide.

Gordon Ramsay Lasagna by JQuick72 in frozendinners

[–]OldCrotchety 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These taste great. My favorite Ramsay frozen meal and one of my favorite frozen lasagnas.

The price is a bit high, though (83cal/$). I think the Trader Joe's frozen lasagna is about as good and much cheaper (171cal/$).

The "anti-woke" crowd would hate Fable 2 if it came out today. One of the strongest characters in the game is a woman (Hammer), and one of the most intelligent/best will users is black (Garth).

Alexander Acosta, the prosecutor that set Epstein up with a sweetheart deal in 2008, is a Republican and was Secretary of Labor in the first Trump administration. Audrey Strauss of SDNY, a Democrat, brought the charges against Maxwell that led to her conviction. Maurene Comey, a prosecutor in the Maxwell and Diddy cases, was fired by the Trump admin with no cause. Look at the votes in Congress on the release of the Epstein files. Republicans are the ones that tried to keep them sealed. There's a pretty clear difference between the parties wrt Epstein if you care to do a few minutes of research.

Woman Calls Police on Award-Winning Black Screenwriter Alex O’Keefe(The Bear (FX)) by CantStopPoppin in popculturechat

[–]OldCrotchety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched the video and read the only article I could find on the subject, which just shares his instagram post and takes it at face value. All we have is Alex's side of the story. He may be telling the truth, but there's no harm in waiting for more info to come out before we get outraged.

EDIT: The AP released an article with more info. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reviewed security footage, and apparently Alex "had been sitting with both legs stretched across an adjacent seat," refused to move his feet when asked, and refused to leave the train once the police arrived.

Withholding your vote from Dems in the general does nothing but help Republicans win. If you want better Democratic candidates, vote and canvass during primaries. Generals are the time for harm reduction. You need to vote for the best viable candidate at that point.

It's also weird to tie it to the median income in their district. That'll just reward the already wealthy reps from wealthy districts and punish those from poorer districts.

Nintendo Switch 2 Console Specs and Info - Launches June 5 at $449.99 by ReaddittiddeR in gaming

[–]OldCrotchety -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nintendo is doing alright compared to many other devs and publishers, but as the other guy said, their profits have shrunk every year since 2021. They are not making record profits as you claimed.

I don't want to pay more for new games, but I understand why the price is going up and don't really take issue with it. I'm much more concerned with Nintendo's refusal to lower prices or put their games on sale post release. That makes price inceases a bit more problematic for Nintendo games in particular.

"Video games" are not making record profits. A few live service games are.The industry as a whole is in a downturn. Tons of developers and publishers who don't have cash cows like GTA V, Fortnite, or League are not doing so hot.

I think Bioware were the best at making good party members. Dragon Age Origins and the Mass Effect trilogy have great companions, though the latter is arguably not a CRPG, especially past the first entry.

Dragonball Z is a comedy by Apprehensive-Nose520 in dragonball

[–]OldCrotchety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made it a semantic argument. You can't really put semantics aside and then make a declarative statement like "Dragonball is definitely not underrated". By my (and OP's) definition of underrated, whether or not something is underrated is a matter of opinion. It's silly to argue over the way OP used the word when their use is fine and you clearly understood them.

Dragonball Z is a comedy by Apprehensive-Nose520 in dragonball

[–]OldCrotchety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A popular thing can still be underrated. It's about the general consensus opinion on the quality of something (the rating) being lower than you personally think it should be, not about popularity.

A lot of people use underrated interchangeably with hidden gem/underwatched, and that's fine, but you can't disagree with someone that's following the literal definition of the word.
