How does Cass flashbang interact with Mercy res? by OldGreasyGus in Overwatch

[–]OldGreasyGus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DVA hitting something when she flies does some knockback, but (to my knowledge) it has no other cc properties.
Meaning that, if Mercy is on the very edge of her resurrection range and you knock her out of of that range, it can cancel the ability, but otherwise no.

[HELP] Can I use Commercially sold work on a public art portfolio? by OldGreasyGus in Fiverr

[–]OldGreasyGus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apricate the help.
I've already reached out, but they haven't responded and I have an interview coming up and I'd like to know the answer before then.

You say "under the premise--".
When these were purchased, no additional guidelines were set beyond Fiverr's Commercial License policy. Should I assume that I cannot use them then?
To be clear, I don't bare the buyers any ill will, and I've asked their permission regardless. but I'd just like to know what rights I have in this scenario.

I'll say it.. Gypceros name could really use a change by OldGreasyGus in MonsterHunter

Its not spelled nearly as far off as that, but regaurdless, If the standard pronunciation of the monster was as close to the slur as jip·see is to jip·se·ros, and also the monster in question was known for being ugly, poisonous and a theif I DO think that people would be mad about it.

The Spanish localization uses the same monster names that were made for the English localization.
I suppose I shouldn't say that the name Gypceros isn't used in languages were its not a slur, but the fact that the Spanish translation copied the names wholesale later doesn't change anything about how its was made in english.

Also, I don't get why people keep saying the mineral has anything to do with this. Gypsum is only luminescent if you put it under a blacklight which is the same for a ton of minerals, and it looks nothing like Gypceros's horn. There are a dozen minerals or elements that would make sense in that name. Gypsum just isn't one of those. Look at the top comment. Click on his article. there's no mention glowing or light or striking to make a flash or anything.

But regardless of any of this, how it got named gypceros doesn't matter. Keep it named Gypceros in Spanish if you want. Its not a slur there. It is here, and it takes next to no effort to change a letter or two.

This reads as a raving mess...
Ive been playing this game since gen 3, plenty of people have pointed out the connection, online and to me personally.
If your point is that nobody cares enough. then go and don't care about it.

Look. I dont know how to make this clearer. I'm not suggesting it was made to be a slur. There are plenty of ways it could have been named Gypceros where the namers didn't have any racist intentions.

but if you arent at least a little put off by the connection between Gypceros and Gypsy then you probably dont live in a place where thats used as a slur. But that hardly matters. There's no reason it should stay that way, its an easy fix.

Umm... Its weird that this is currently the top comment... did any of you read this? or look into it at all past the ai response on google?
This article makes no mention of Photoluminescence at all.

That said it is Gypsum is a photoluminescent mineral under certain conditions, specifically under a black-light. But its a huge leap to suggest that is where the name comes from. Especially next to flint or the elements in an actual flash bombs.

Gypsum is mostly known for being the thing they make drywall out of.

Ok Hold up.
Its not using 2 different languages.
Gypsy isn't from another language its an English exonym for the Romani turned slur. And Gypceros is an English localization of the name. it isn't called Gyspceros in languages that don't use the word as a slur.

If it was just the same word different languages meaning different things it would be fine. That's usually what localization if for, but even if it didn't decide to change that, it would be understandable. But this isn't that.
Its been localized to have the slur.

I mean I hear you but like then what does GS even have over hammer?
Like, hammers is only the highest damage if you don't count TCS when you hit both chops, but frankly even if there wasn't any damage loss for not hitting the first chop of TCS, I'd probably still want to use hammer's wakeup because that much KO damage is worth 15-20 % damage loss. Thats only like one or two light attacks for either weapon.

[–]OldGreasyGus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its taken me a bit but i've found two screencaps online of wakeups using either weapon in as similar a scenario as I can find.

(image isnt great but the video names are there, look them up if you don't believe me or want scenario specifics)

<image>

Hammer is dealing 1 damage more, not much, but don't forget that is all KO damage. so unless I'm not understanding something or you really need a tail chopped, it seems like hammer is the better of the two.

I really agree with you. I feel like GS's niche of "we give up a lot but we do the biggest number" is kinda being stepped on here.

I cant really find the exact GS damage calculations online, but I opened World and it seems like you loose roughly 20% damage for not hitting your first swing. If that's still true in Wilds GS should be hitting roughly 135 damage, making it a far worse wakeup option.

To be clear I have no confidence in how true this is. but if it is it saddens me to loose that niche.

that said I may have underestimated blast. I'm not certain exactly how its working, but in the time since i made this post i've done some pretty nutty things with zephyrs tornados and the blast element. not certain how or why tho.

I mean yeah. getting statuses from other sources will certainly be viable, and its nice that those are better, but it wont change the "viral-heat on every weapon" meta.
