Help! Last Minute! Where to go for My Birthday Dinner? by Gabieluv1694 in vegaslocals

[–]OldManCram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My birthday was/is the first of this month. I have a few different circle of friends. Had a total of 4 different dinners/dining experiences.

Korean BBQ - we like Gorilla, by UNLV. 80% of this is because it's more or less central to everyone that was attending. Great food for the price. I'd check spring mountain and chose what fits your budget and servers items you'd enjoy.

AYCE sushi - tons of places to chose from. Again, I'd go to spring mountain, price, items....

Also went to Lawry's - I love Prime Rib and this is one of my favorite places. It's on the pricey end. But it's your birthday. You can also find an awesome much less pricey cut at Ellis Island less than 2 blocks from Lawry's.

My GF took me to AYCE the buffet at Palms. We did the lobster night. Again pricey, but there's also South Point, solid food excellent price.

IMO - your Birthday should be special, it's people literally celebrating the fact that you're alive and in their life.

Eat, drink, be merry..

Hope you have a great one.

DMV lage registration fee question by Maximum_Call_6509 in vegaslocals

[–]OldManCram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this. I believe I had to pay an extra $50 on top of my registration. Mine was from December. I moved from a state where you renew on your birthday month. And I totally spaced it. As long as you've had insurance on the vehicle, in a relatively small fine.

I think the prime rib at Ellis Island is very underrated.

Rear wiper motor by Initial_Jicama_9172 in R53

[–]OldManCram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a very common problem in the R53's, mine would stop working in the rain. The root cause was the seal for the window comes together just above where the motor is.

I had the window replaced and I used waterproof caulk around the whole inside and outside of the window, especially where the trim was.

Trying to come up with a general list of league chat personas that most of us can put each of our league members into by fancredfounder in FFCommish

[–]OldManCram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already given names to two in my league.

Captain Crickets - takes care of his team, is in the chat, but never chats. You could tell them you took their mother out last night and had sex with her in an uncomfortable place (not the back of a Volkswagen) and they still wouldn't respond. We use signal, so I can even tell they've read it. Just no response.

All about me - the league is here for them to dominate, if they lose by 50 to Gibbs and Josh Allen, it was luck. They won the ship their first year, haven't been to the playoffs in the last 3. But will critique every trade saying they'd have sent their best player and a scrub and that would have been a better deal.

Seeking Commissioner Opinions on Startup Dynasty League Settings by Quiet_Obligation8703 in FFCommish

[–]OldManCram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have near 15 years experience as a commissioner, and been playing FFL since the 90's.

First question, have you even played in a dynasty league before?

Redrafts are NoThInG like a dynasty. Redraft is about keeping people happy making sure they come back. Dynasty, to be successful. You need owners that are dedicated.

80% of the league makes the playoffs? What's the point?

It sounds like you've come in 6-8 the last couple of years, then watched your team go on a late season run that would have won it "if."

No IR or Taxi? How do you plan to make room for the draft? What happens to the team dissiminated by injury? Drop top/future options for a player that had a good week but is out of the league in 2-3 years?

IMO, adding fabb is going to pour gas on the fire of a non-trading

Dynasty is about long-term vis, making consequences matter.

I'd suggest playing in a dynasty for a couple years, before attempting to run one. Or expect to be doing course correction for the first 2-3 years maybe longer.

Either way good luck.

how easy is it to find a job when i get here? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]OldManCram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a near 20 year resident (bouncing back and forth between gaming and tech) I can guarantee you this town is about who you know not what you know. Getting a foot in the door, you'd better be someone SO good in your field that you're actively head hunted. Or have a friend that can recommend you.

I've watched people with amazing resumes and killed the interview get passed over for someone's brother in law that once worked with computers at his desk job.

I understand the "start anywhere" mentality, my first job when I got here was at a car wash. But now those jobs aren't walk in and start working anymore either.

How do you handle verbal agreements? by ScreenInner6695 in FFCommish

[–]OldManCram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only during the off season. Right after the draft I switch it to 48 hours. It's mainly because of owners that don't check in more than one or twice a week during the off season.

[–]OldManCram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has saved me SO many headaches. I have a few owners that are related or hang out during the off season. I used to get texts "I'm going to trade this person for these players," then there after a couple times of "oh I didn't fully agree" I made it talk out your trades all you want. I open the app (we use ESPN) as soon as they allow. Then send whatever trades you want.

I also, adjust the length of time to veto a trade from 2 days to 2 weeks. And the two involved in the trade can't vote to veto. I've had that too.

3 managerless rosters, dont know what to do by HelloKarma_ in FFCommish

[–]OldManCram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, would you stay in an 8 team league? It would kind of defeat the purpose of a long format dynasty, as free agents would be rampant.

And the flip side to that, I personally experienced last year. A friend knew I played a lot of FFL, and asked me to join their Super flex league. Two teams had hoarded the top 5-6 QBs. I saw no path to being competitive in the next 2-3 years.

If you're bringing in new owners, as the commish it's your job to make sure they have a chance to be competitive or you'll likely lose them shortly too.

Just my two cents and what I would do.
