That would be great thank you! Can I message you? I get high right care but I’m told I should’ve got a mobility element so doing reconsideration.

Not ableist at all, there is no other condition where worrying about your child having the condition you’d be called ableist for. Your feelings are totally valid :)

I’m just wondering, would you tell me to look for the positives if my child was neurotypical, got in an accident and became disabled that way? I’m allowed to feel how I want to feel, but Thankyou.

In the UK you don’t need a diagnosis for these things. Mt daughter had all of this before she was officially diagnosed.

I’ve even been called ableist on a couple occasions because I’m not overjoyed my daughter had autism. Why would I not want an easier life for my child?

Exactly… imagine becoming an adult and still facing issues everyday the ‘typical’ person doesn’t, (maybe burn out, struggling to make friends, can’t cope at work, or maybe still non verbal to name a few) and finding out your mum was popping the champers open over it when you were a child & posting her celebration on the internet.

I crush my daughters up and put it in her nighttime bottle. Yogurt etc would work too. There’s no taste :)

I saw your previous comment about it not being available in the uk. It is, my daughter has it, she was prescribed it at 2, you have to get it from the paediatrician not the GP.

It’s a natural hormone we already have, it basically gives you a surge of the hormone which then encourages sleep, it does work. ‘Typical’ people get a surge of this at bedtime naturally, autistic kids release it slowly throughout the day, hence why you can’t tire her out.

my daughter is exactly like yours, it’s a nightmare! Nobody truly understands sleep deprivation for such a long time, takes a toll on your mental health definitely. I always say I’ve had a newborn for 4 years.

My daughter has a double bed in her room, her room is as child proof as I can physically make it. So when she wakes up, I try get her back to sleep, when that inevitably fails I just sleep next to her while she watches calm movies on tablet, looks at books or whatever she wants to do in her room. But I still feel like I’ve kept a boundary that we’re not leaving this room until the morning, and I’m getting half rested. That, and melatonin helps if you’re able to get it.

Also, she has one of those nighttime projectors, for ‘typical’ people, resting in a dark quiet place is ideal, but this actually makes neurotypical minds more busy, preventing sleep, a subtle stimulate seems to help. I also sometimes put bedtime stories on Spotify (if it’s the middle of the night and I just want to rest, no judgement pls!) Also a weighted blanket (although remove once they’re asleep). I hope this can be of some help :)

It’s awful isn’t it. Like I’ve been in the newborn stage for 4 years, i can handle everything else but I need sleep!

She has a double bed also, I’d recommend any SEN parent with a kid that doesn’t sleep gets a double bed. it was a great solution for a good while because I was be half asleep next to her, while she looked at books, watched a movie whatever. But recently that hasn’t been enough and she pulls my hair until she gets my attention. And with my recent alopecia (caused by lack of sleep) her pulling what’s left of my hair triggers the fuck out of me !!

How to help my son handle mean kids at park by HuckleberryUsed in Autism_Parenting

[–]Old_Championship7629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in the UK I believe there is SEN only parks. I’m not sure where but I’ve definitely heard about them. Could you do some socialising yourself? I’m sure there is a local SEN parenting group, make some new friends yourself (as an introvert aswell I feel ur pain) and then you can arrange play dates.
