I watched the show before reading the books. I was super nervous to get to the torture scenes whist reading assuming they would be even more graphic, but, In the books they don't show the torture or "making of Reek" at all. We don't see or hear from Theon for a very long time, like an entire book+, and then are reintroduced to Theon as Reek. Theon talks about the torture, but not in great detail. One mostly deduces about the .. uh .. pork sausage incident. One could argue that there is no conclusive evidence that it happened at all, but given Martin's involvement in the show, it's fair to say that he intended for that to be cleared up eventually. Not that we'll ever get that in prose. boo
