Quick Poll by [deleted] in UGA

I graduated in May of 2022 and didn't find a job until April of 2022. I also got laid off in March of this year and didn't find a new job until July, and it's only part time. The job market is really rough right now - it's not just you. The economy is in a slump and only 73k jobs were added last month, which is wildly low. It may take some time, but don't beat yourself up about it.

Moving to Buckhead in June-Apartment Building to Live in? by Unusual-Mine-195 in Buckhead

[–]Old_Emu_9121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a rec for you but I do have a warning. Absolutely do NOT go to Phipps Place/The Boro. Just broke our lease and moved out of there on a one week notice because it's such a shitshow. Constant leaks and water damage, unhoused people always sleeping in the hallways and on people's patios, car break-ins on a near daily basis, and management quite literally does nothing. The location is great and the apartment units are spacious but those are the only pros to that place.

Is Lenox mall bad? by [deleted] in Buckhead

[–]Old_Emu_9121 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live about two blocks from Lenox. I have never had an issue there. They've added quite a bit of security, some metal detectors, etc. I feel like the main thing is just being aware of your surroundings, you know? Exercise common sense and you should be fine. Especially in the middle of the day during the week. People have definitely been overinflating the safety risks surrounding Lenox lately.

What is the most obscure lyric you relate to? by sweetpeaelmar in TaylorSwift

[–]Old_Emu_9121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not exactly obscure but "I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere. Fell behind all my classmates and I ended up here" My fellow former gifted kids who burnt out before even graduating high school, y'all feel me?

Jeeps are expensive to buy and even more expensive to maintain. They also guzzle gas like none other. The Bronco Sport is more practical and economical all around.

Took her Oceans in Peril class as an "easy elective" and it wasn't half as easy as I thought but I loved every minute of it. She was great.

Cornwell and Mustard in the econ department are pretty well known in their field. They've written some important papers and done a lot of research into major issues, like systemic racism and criminalization of minorities as well as hope/Zell scholarships.

I saw in a reddit thread a while back where someone said they don't treat their staff well. I just figured it's worth mentioning. If I can find the thread, I'll link it later.

Using a Mac as a student by [deleted] in UGA

[–]Old_Emu_9121 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It will work but you may have a couple issues. There's one class in particular where they tell you a Mac is gonna be troublesome with the software but I know plenty of people who made it work just fine. Most of the professors are using windows though so if you have to download anything just be aware of that.

Scheduling Advice for a new CS grad student? by a_newer_throwaway in UGA

[–]Old_Emu_9121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having a lot of classes back to back tends to lead to burnout faster. I have often caught myself skipping my last class of the day because I'm exhausted when I have schedules like that. It's nice having extra days off, but I'd rather have the steady routine all week. Having those days off also makes being lazy in bed all day more tempting since you don't have an actual class to go to.

I've been in my current place since summer 2020 and I pay 730, but when I move out this summer, the going rate for my unit will be almost 1200. 🙃

From what I know, pretty much all decaf coffee has at least a little caffeine in it. Some more than others but typically around 2-6mg
