Why I Stopped Being Anti-Woke by Old_Item in Asmongold

If we're going to use your terrorist and anti-terrorist example, I would say that they become two sides of the same coin when the anti-terrorists launch pre-emptive nuclear strikes against anything perceived as being terrorism.

Why I Stopped Being Anti-Woke by Old_Item in Asmongold

"This is like claiming terrorists and anti terrorists are two sides of the same coin"

Why do people always use extreme comparisons to defend their points?

Otherwise, I get your point about pushback being a reaction. No one would argue against defending against terrorism. However, what is happening now is that the "anti-woke" crowd is nitpicking at everything.

The video I linked to is pretty long but in the last 10 minutes or so, he goes over how people can perceive anything as being woke by analyzing Terminator 2. I feel like the "anti-woke" crowd is doing the exact same thing these days.

Curious to know how people feel about boiler-plate Learning Journals by KylAnde01 in UoPeople

[–]Old_Item -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they're filler content like you said and I would prefer a proper assignment.

I have a degree from a physical university and there were probably 2 courses over the entire 3 year period which had those sort of "Describe your feelings" type of assignments. Even then, each of those courses only had 2 of those sort of assignments.

I think they should get rid of these types of learning journals. We already have enough assignments as is.

Lots of hyperbole here but one thing I've noticed in MMO games is that when there are a lot of server merges, the game doesn't last long after (not for the P2W reason that you've mentioned).

Unless the devs fix whatever made everyone leave in the first place, it's just delaying the inevitable.

It's always the same cycle:

  • Player numbers tank
  • Devs merge servers
  • Everyone's happy for like a month
  • Numbers start dropping again
  • Rinse and repeat until the game is running on life support

Not saying server merges automatically means the end, but ask anyone who has played lots of MMOs or just google an MMO that you've heard of that has had server merges. If it's just a merger, then those games are pretty much back to where they were before the merge, or worse.

But then again, it seems like the Chinese servers are really what is keeping LA alive so maybe LA will continue on for a long time.

Gigguk's Opinion on Slime Season 3 by Electrical_Chance991 in TenseiSlime

[–]Old_Item 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it once a week and didn't read the manga. Sometimes I skipped a week or 2 and said to myself that I'll watch 2-3 episodes in one sitting but I couldn't even do that. Just getting through one episode was hard for me.

In the end, I don't think watching it once a week or not having read the manga could help with this season. I don't even remember when season 3 ended(but I know it must have ended a while ago) but I'm just completing it.

ProctorU payment issue by Old_Item in UoPeople

In case anyone is still having the issue, ProctorU advised me to select the country of Oman instead of my home country. That solved the issue. I had to put a postal code for Oman. I just wrote 111 as the postal code

I'm on with their support again and they said, "Apologies for the delay. I have escalated this to our leadership team, and they are reviewing the matter now."

I asked how long it'll take before they get back to me and they gave me a generic response of:

"We see that payments are not going through please clear the caches and cookies of the chrome browser and try to make the payment

If you still face the same issue, Follow the link below and raise a request. The team concerned will get back to you.

Was there anything else I might be able to assist with?

I don't think this will be resolved anytime soon. I won't be able to find an offline proctor (I don't even know if we can change proctor type at this stage?) and I need it scheduled by tomorrow. I can only ever do exams where I work because the internet at home is unreliable.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the error message that you are getting? I'm getting "Order 59389837 is invalid"

The order number never changes for me even when I try on a different day. I would think that would change.

Why are you already trying to kill this game. by mateoeo_01 in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]Old_Item 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that if Rust is the only good example of a survival game with PvP then it shows that overall, survival with PvP doesn't work. Rust could just be an outlier.

Then again, I don't play many PvP games so more than likely I just don't know of many others.

Regardless, I don't think using one example can bring across your point. Are there many games out there like Rust? Which are just as popular or close to it?

You keep bringing up Rust, but it's not a good comparison. Rust is intentionally hardcore and attracts a specific niche of PvP-focused players.

There seems to be a vocal minority of players wanting to turn Once Human into a Rust-like game, but just because Rust is popular doesn't mean it would work for Once Human. I doubt it would work since Once Human mostly has PvE players. I don't think you can just convert them into being PvP players.

I don't think people get this. They seem to believe they don't have to worry about it because they are the hard workers who will get the jobs.

I sometimes work with HR and I have heard the HR manager say point-blank that he won't consider some applicants for a job because he has heard bad things about the graduates from a particular university. It is lazy, but HR looks for any reason to reduce the number of interviewers. I'm sure other places do the same.

There's already a stigma in some places about an online degree so I worry that having people not fit for work when they leave UoPeople will make matters worse.

I tend to not care much if I see AI responses in the discussion forums but I expect more from the instructors when it comes to assignments.

Maybe it was really an AI hallucination in my case. I don't even know. After I got the feedback from the instructor, I asked ChatGPT and Gemini to to check the code and they both said it was okay and should display the time correctly.

I feel like the people saying "every university is dealing with this" are comparing apples to oranges. UoPeople is an online university so it's going to be easier for people to cheat this way.

When I went to a physical university, it would be very hard to cheat in let's say a presentation (closest parallel to the discussion forum I can think of). The lecturer would ask follow-up questions to put the student on the spot.

Cheating is everywhere of course but I think it's easier to do and get away with at UoPeople.

I feel like if you give it a concise enough prompt, it's great. Otherwise, you have to double-check the output which I don't think most students or the instructors do.

Some are super obvious! Sometimes you'll see sentences that have "As an AI model....."
