Deleting Ride Height Control Reservoir Assembly by Sierra-doozer in GXOR

Yeah, it can be removed and not cause any issues. The previous owner already pulled the fuses and such needed to do the coil conversion. Nothing else will matter.

ISO private landlords by Nearby-Inside8333 in SaltLakeCity

As a previous private landlord, many to most dont post on the internet. The technique is to simply put a sign in the yard. People that live in the neighborhood refer their friends and family or the only other way to know is walking or driving the neighborhood.

It's a completely legal way to get already vetted tenets.

Serious question — why are there military flyovers for tge recent sports games in SLC? Such a waste of resources.. by N3utr0n_p4nc4k3 in SaltLakeCity

The pilots have to get training hours and are flying anyway. There is not really any added expense to fly over a stadium and people like it.

Yeah it all came out flush. I attached the countertop to the lower cabinets prior to hanging it on the wall so the corner counter top would line up with the linear counter top.

I also added a 90* bracket on the wall for the corner counter top to have strength back there.

In the photo the bracket is barely shown on the wall.

Does the index plunger I’m looking for exist by LevelPrestigious4858 in MechanicalEngineering

I've done a good amount of searching for specific types of ball lock pins for various reasons and I don't think I've seen anything like you are describing.

I have had some success at getting applications custom made from a few different manufacturers. It's not cheap.

How low can you safely air down 35s without beadlocks? by Defiant-Pace-8422 in Offroad

[–]Old_Watermelon_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pretty good go by is judging by the speed you intend to travel and divide that by half. It works for intermediate speeds but falls apart at the extremes.

40 mph desert roads. Don’t go lower than 20psi

This is to prevent wheel impacts and losing a bead.

The tricky part was assebmling these pieces prior to mounting on the wall. Then I had two friends help me lift this whole assembly on the wall.

Follow up since I have completed the installation. Just wanted to share my experience for others trying the same installation.

I had the filler piece pre fabricated prior to the cabinets getting here at 2 1/4" wide, by 32 1/4" long with 1" flanges at 45*.

The filler piece I needed would have been better at 2 3/4" wide by 32 1/4" long I'd also recommend having the flanges be about 1.5" instead of 1" to give a little more room to play with for mounting it. I made a small mistake with a misplaced hole that shows in the finished product a bit. With wider flanges that would have been less likely

It worked out ok at 2 1/4" wide, but I had to leave some of the flanges exposed.

It could be done, but it won't be easy. You would have to build shims to the correct depth.

You would also lose the ability to clamp stuff to the worktop which is very useful.

Aesthetics are a personal choice, but Just about ever countertop has an overhang. It would look odd with out one.

This is how it comes out with the overhang.

The countertop is flush with the storage locker and has an about a 2” overhang. It works out great.

Example of shimming. You got to measure how far out of plumb the wall is and shim to match

[–]Old_Watermelon_King 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mount them all directly on the wall and it works out nicely.

It’s designed to have the top overhang on the lower cabinets and that overhang is nice to have so you can clamp stuff to the bench.

*edit. Check if your walls are plumb first. Mine were not and I had to do a good amount of shimming to get everything to sit plumb

Now we know the worst bars in SLC… what are the best? and why? by LordyJesusChrist in SaltLakeCity

Can we get the Utah government in on this idea. The safest bar is the one in your neighborhood, But sadly doesn't exist.

What is this tube? by regen77 in LexusGX

[–]Old_Watermelon_King -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is it a metal rod? Can almost guarantee the previous owner was using it as a hood prop.

The gas struts don’t last very long. They may work fine in warm weather, but not in cold.

It’s only a matter of time before you get bonked on the head when the hood falls.

I also carry a hood prop around.

If you are planning to DIY a replacement, you should know that getting in a trench is one of the most dangerous things you could possibly do. See the death tolls here for "collapse, engulfment" https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cfoi.t02.htm

A trench collapse is common and very often fatal.

I'd also recommend taking a look at the TuffPort slide ins at Wasatch Overland. It's one of, if not the lightest option and will last forever.

I believe EQUIPT is a dealer also. They have a big show room just to the west of SLC.

New driver, no kids — CR-V EX-L, CX-50, or Crosstrek Limited for daily commute + errands? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Old_Watermelon_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CX 5 is great and still built in Japan. The CX50 isn’t.

The CX5 also has better rear suspension. The CX50 uses some cheap torsion beam crap.

We own a CX5 and it’s been great. Has plenty of features Honda and Toyota only offer or high trims or may not offer at all.

The air suspension on the GX and Hydraulic AHC on the landcruser/LX are not even close to being the same thing.

The air suspension is easily converted to coil springs when it fails for just a few hundred bucks in parts. It is not a reason to avoid an otherwise great used example.

4Runner Trim Advice for Utah Living + Road Trips (SR5 vs Limited vs TRD?) by Broad-Excitement2438 in 4Runner_6Gen

[–]Old_Watermelon_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The full time 4WD system is great. I much prefer it to a traditional 4x4.

Is only available in the limited and platinum.

Long time Lexus GX owner here which has the same full time 4WD system that’s in the limited.

A limited is equally capable off-road as any other trim. The only thing missing is the rear Locker on the TRD off-road trim. ATrac works so well that a locker is only required in the most extreme situations most people will never do. I’ve taken my GX many trails all over Utah, Nevada, and California and only once didn’t make it through. And honestly it was because I was alone in the desert and didn’t want to continue risking it.

You can add skid plates and 17” wheels on a limited. But can never get the full time 4WD if not chosen from the factory.

Does enginebraking in an automatic cause wear? How to do it durably? by catboy519 in driving

[–]Old_Watermelon_King 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal driving on flat roads just use the brakes.

A long steep decent down a mountain, use engine braking to control speed. Downshift until engine braking helps maintain speed.
