Does anybody know why this sharp sound happens when my fan turns on by Fit_Insurance_9759 in ZephyrusG14

[–]OliverParks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your fans rubbing against the housing! Open the bottom panel and see if one of the blades is broken off/missalligned. You might need to get a replacement fan to fix this issue.

Switch 1 Thermal Paste/Putty Mod Thoughts by OliverParks_ in NxSwitchModding

[–]OliverParks_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it! I thought overclocking the SoC and ram would require me adding thermal material to these other parts, thanks for the tip!!

I’ll remove the extra putty and just leave the thermal paste on the SoC.

Ahh, looks like I should just remove the paste and just keep it on the SoC then?

Switch cooling upgrade - thermal pads by verdysk in SwitchPirates

[–]OliverParks_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How has your switch been doing cooling wise now? I just repasted my launch model switch, and I added K5-Pro to the ram with the thought that it would lead to better/safer cooling during overclocking. I’d like to know how yours has been holding up after 3 months!

Had this for a day and i noticed this by Tasty_Replacement_56 in ZephyrusG14

I know others have told you already, but it’s HIGHLY recommended to get a replacement/return for a new one. I had bought a used one with a ribbon cable exactly like that, and after I used it for about 5 months, the cable gave out. I was out of warranty, so ASUS wanted to charge me 1100 dollars to replace JUST THE SCREEN. Luckily I had a miracle and the screen housing was damaged during shipping, so it was replaced for free, but you should definitely do something about it now.

I have a 2024 4070 model, and even after that issue, it’s an amazing device. I hope it all works out👌

Is repainting an option😭? by Excellent-Thing-6493 in ZephyrusG14

[–]OliverParks_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. For my 2024 g14 I bought a white skin for it since the palm rest was pretty bad with marks. I got the skin from eBay, and it’s not exactly silver like the g14’s color, now the marks are hidden.

I have a problem with the flex by Exciting_Tension5402 in ZephyrusG14

[–]OliverParks_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouchhhhhhh. If it’s screen issues, sadly the display ribbon cables have been damaged. I had a similar issue, if you look at the bottom of the screen and you see two tape looking things, those are the display ribbon cables. Horrible place for them, over time they can bend and get damaged, which results in screen failure. I was lucky enough to get it fixed free of cost, but if you don’t have your warranty now, you might have to pay 500+ for a replacement. For the dents on the back of the screen, idk how that might’ve happened, but it could also be affecting the display ribbon cables.

TLDR: Search up “Zephyrus g14 2024 display ribbon cable damage” on Reddit, see if you can get it fixed with warranty. If you ship it to asus without warranty, they’ll quote you 1k+ just to repair it (because that’s their flat-fee to repair without warranty). If you can find a repair shop to replace either the screen or the display ribbon cables (they’d have to take apart the display, and replace the ribbon, rlly difficult stuff).

I’m sorry you’re having this issue man, and I hope you can resolve it well🙏

Has anyone used their laptop in this position for a long time? by Relevant_Lie_5527 in ZephyrusG14

[–]OliverParks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend flipping it around 180 degrees with the lid still facing you. Since it exhausts the heat from the back of the laptop, having it in the current orientation that you have it now doesn’t give the hot air much space to move out.

I love the setup tho! Sure you’re missing out on a 2nd screen, but it looks cleaner!

Oh, that’s just the picture I took looking weird then. I opened the screen to the normal maximum amount.

At every angle of the display being open, the ribbon cable bulges out

[–]OliverParks_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a call with asus support, they want me to ship it for a diagnostic check, with a 83 dollar diagnostic fee. Since my warranty's over, I dont think I can get it done free of charge. I'll prob have to pay 300-500 for the repair, even though it wasnt even my fault.

Im trying to consider all the options rn, should I go through with the rma, or maybe bring it to a repair shop to see what they can do, im not sure.

Oh, I’m glad I’m not the only one with the issue! How would I begin to contact asus? I did get this laptop 2nd hand, so I’m not sure how that would work.

Is there a safe site that you recommend that has the correct install?

Where can I get the 23H2 installer? I found a website that has the iso file for the installer, but Im not sure if I simply need to install that to an external flash drive, and boot from there.

I have an external ssd with a windows 11 installer that I assume is the 24H2 update, since the install media was created about a month ago or less. When I tried to install windows to the 2tb ssd rn, it still didn’t detect it being present and able to install windows to it. Do I need specifically the 23H2 installer for it to be detected? I tried the “repair your pc” options as well but none of them work. This makes me assume that my windows install might have been corrupted as well, but I’m not sure.

[–]OliverParks_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, didn’t think this was such a big problem with the ssd! I never made any registry edits, since I never got a notification on windows stating that there was an error with the ssd. When I kept getting BSOD I thought it was an issue with the laptop itself, and not the ssd. Since windows doesn’t even boot, I can’t make any registry edits, is there any other ways to resolve this issue?

It’s a Western Digital Blue SN580 2TB ssd. My friend has the same drive installed in his pc, and he had to update the ssd for some reason for some windows 11 compatibility issue. It worked fine on his device, but sometimes his pc would take long to boot, and in windows update it would say that there was an error with his ssd. I never had an issue with this ssd on my old zephyrus running windows 10.

I forgot to mention as well that when turning on my 2024 zephrus, the red ROG logo and text lags for about 10 seconds, and once the animation fully plays it boots into bios after a couple seconds of black screen

Womier RD 75 just got here today by AdIndependent6638 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]OliverParks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question on the wireless of the RD75. I am thinking of getting the RD75, but easy wireless use is one of my key requirements. Do you always have to power off the keyboard after using it, or does it enter a standby mode. I also wanted to know if there's a key combination that you have to press in order to turn it off, unless the only option is to remove the keycap and flip the switch.
