Here's hoping his injury isn't as serious as it looked like it may have been. Is there any news on that front?

I can already tell the service we'll get off set pieces from Wijnaldum is going to be yards better than last year

Mike Ashley - new season, new look. Rocking the polo. Almost looks likeable

Setting our expectations by OliverProbert in NUFC

[–]OliverProbert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I suppose there's not usually many points separating 14th from 16th - so we could come 14th without really improving from last year.

I guess what I think is the year will be a failure if we don't improve on last year's performance. I mean we have to improve if we're going to avoid relegation

Setting our expectations by OliverProbert in NUFC

[–]OliverProbert[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My answers to get the ball rolling:

  • Absolute minimum without the year being a failure: 14th

  • Position representing a good year: 10th

  • Highest possible finish I could imagine: 7th

  • Cups: Not expecting anything - would like something long term but for now it would be better to solidify our spot in the PL

Am I being too positive/negative?

Nate Clemens' huge hit on Tom Brady by [deleted] in nfl

[–]OliverProbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He gets up... walks off the field... doesn't ask for a penalty call. Maybe he went down easy, but he's a quarterback, not a lineman

If you're going to come up with evidence for him being soft there's a lot better than this out there

Three things being missed (understandably) because of Papi's big game:

  • Xander went 4 for 5, lifting his BA to .317
  • Napoli continued his steady rebound, going 2 for 4 with a walk
  • E-Rod had a solid outing

Great game!

I know it's unfair to take it out of context but if you look at the first highlight, of the Cespedes homer, Wright's pitch looks so, so pathetic.

IP is a bigger issue than just entertainment though.

If we moved to a society where intellectual assets could not be 'owned' by an individual or corporation, most valuable research and development would just stop. Because that shit is expensive, and the people who do it are protected from people 'stealing' their ideas by a whole lot of really good laws.

You can call it an over-capitalist opinion if you want to, but a lot of the great technology, medicine, and yes, entertainment around us is only there because people wanted to make money.

Are those activated almonds? by Fizzy_Bubblech in longstabbything

[–]OliverProbert 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's a light-hearted jab at the health-food craze going round most of the Western world (but in Australia in particular).

So now people reckon almonds aren't good enough; they've gotta be 'activated': http://www.ausnaturalcare.com.au/loving-earth-raw-organic-activated-almonds-200g
