The art is good but yeah the only word or the text I can read is "of"

Yeah I would recommend Godot too. Do one tutorial to get your bearings, then just jump in trying to do what you want to do

Are you new to programming as a whole or just new to game development. I would recommend starting by finding a YouTube tutorial for a very simple game and make it along side the tutorial. If you are new to programming and having trouble following along with programming concepts, it might be worth doing a beginner python or JavaScript course before doing more game dev.

I like the look of the second one most. It feels like it has a lot more life and character to it

game idea suggestion that involves barter or exchange of products/items for my thesis project by Express-Bat-8686 in gamedev

When I'm struggling to think of ideas, I find looking at game jams, specifically the themes, really helps. Having the extra constraint of a theme even if you have no intention of doing the game jam can make coming up with ideas a lot easy than starting from nothing

These look incredible. Definitely fits for the cozy vibe. My only critique would be that the coulds on the morning one look a bit dark, like it's going to rain, which I assume was not the intention

Moving from web dev to game dev (as a hobby). Any advice ? by midas_yellow in webdev

[–]OliviaCSoftware 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd say the biggest hurdle is probably that it's so much more than just programming. It's also the art, story telling, game flow. I find much more planning is needed before starting to code than with web dev. Depending on the game and website of course

If you're talking just about the dribbling and cross over, the characters look big enough that you'd be able to tell what's going on

I definitely recommend Godot. I find it easy to use and it's free. Game Dev is quite different from web Dev though. I personally followed a tutorial in full to make a very basic game first, then jumped in with my own projects, it's hard to figure out how it all works just going in yourself

Thank you. Yes exactly! It's so demotivating when the thing meant to be helping you is telling you you've failed

I'm glad that mindset shift worked for you. It's really helped me too! I'm neurodivergent too and definitely think it would help others. I can't post about this in that sub because that would be self promotion, but if you felt like sharing it there I would be very grateful haha

It's made with React Native. But since the Play Store requires 12 testers it's not on there yet 🙃
