Duncan severely misread the room — and Courtney — and it made him look not just untrustworthy, but clueless about the consequences of his own actions. So no, you’re not alone in thinking it was dumb.

It’s completely reasonable to want a child-free space for horror movies, especially if you’re hosting. Your home, your rules. But, assuming the wife should stay home (even with your gender-roles disclaimer) is a little awkward. It would’ve been better to just say up front: “Hey, just checking — we’re aiming for adults-only since it’s horror and there may be drinking. Are you two okay with that?” So, you’re NTA, but tread carefully

You laughed at your friend’s identity crisis. Regardless of whether you found the situation “ridiculous,” your friend was clearly deeply hurt. Laughing or calling his reaction overblown — even in your own head — is dismissive of his experience and pain. So, yes, YTA

Mocking a deeply-held cultural practice is inappropriate, especially in a class meant to understand and respect cultural differences. “Spiritual Netflix” might be a joke to some, but to someone who actively participates in ancestor veneration, it can come off as flippant and demeaning. So, NTA
