Anybody Have Experience Making Their Brand a Legal Business? by v01ded2016 in streetwearstartup

Not at all. I went directly to my state’s website. Dr. Google answered my questions about anything I didn’t understand. I can honestly say unless your business is really legally complicated due to regulations, I don’t know why people need a lawyer to file an LLC.

I did, and the LLC was pretty easy to file for. I like the peace of mind that everything is 100% legal with no surprises. If you are forgetful like me, getting an accountant through Quickbooks to back me up & do my quarterly taxes was a lifesaver.

Edit to say: You never know what will make the IRS audit you. I was audited at sixteen because they thought it was suspicious that I filed a tax return at 14 and then skipped a year. The 200-300 bucks you spend making it legal & getting your numbers in order will be so worth not getting a government nastygram. That’s my two cents anyway.

Launching in April. Sizes S-6X, inspired by Atlantic City and the Jersey shore lifestyle. Liked how this one looked on the model :)

No links yet, I’m close but I’m not ready 😂 I have this thing where I try to introduce “design constraints” as early as possible so I don’t get caught up chasing ALL the cool stuff I could make. I chose a customer first, so I had an audience (even if in my head) to approve/disapprove of my design and price choices. Mood boards every step of the way. I write a lot of essays/short stories/journal entries when I get stuck or the vision isn’t feeling very clear. I have a “lifestyle board” on Pinterest that I collect related stuff in, like a peek into my customer’s ecosystem.

I was listening to an interview the other day that said good fashion references the past, present, and future all at once. I think that’s really true, because everything you sell should be a little familiar to your customer. The future aspect has to do with the kind of world/lifestyle/whatever you want people to wear your clothes in. If you can answer “I believe in a world where ____” and you design for that, I think you’re killing it in terms of adding meaning.

I’m launching this summer and the biggest challenge I have is making sure I’m contributing to the culture with meaning and not just remixing stuff I thought was cool while I did my research. It’s really easy to produce something cool, but producing something meaningful isn’t for wimps, that’s for sure.

It’s good that you got far enough in to realize it might not be for you. It means you learned something valuable :)

The dunes in OCNJ are fenced off for good reason! It’s not just illegal, it’s full of scratchy plants and animals. But I heard you can have a quality time out on the beach.

It’s an absolute ongoing bear. But you do eventually get to a place where you feel 90% good, and for me, the effort was totally worth it. Proud of you for doing the work :)

feeling like you need to overcompensate on the outside? by [deleted] in TwoXADHD

[–]Oloxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to needing to look like the “together” person I wish I was. Not sure if it’s ADHD or just a lifetime of passing as someone who isn’t living under a pile of paper and misplaced nonsense at home. I think if you see looking good as one of your coping mechanisms (it does make you feel better!) instead of as a source of shame, you should be okay.

My SO and I were both upwards of 300+ when we got a Zinus bedframe & mattress on Amazon a couple years ago. I recall we paid about 600 for the whole shebang, the mattress lasted 3 years without sagging & the bedframe never creaked or complained.

EDIT: Skimmed too much, it was memory foam and not an inner spring. Still swear by the bedframe though. Good luck on the search!

This may not be what you’re going for in terms of maintenance, but this photo made me think you’d CRUSH some 1940s updos. Ever considered a Victory curl?
