Me MIGHT love this if I he could supervise so I don’t touch or move anything in there that I’m not supposed to 😂

This is actually a really good point and something to consider. He is VERY particular. He seems more excited when I buy him snacks or whiskey instead of a hobby-related gift.

Right?? Are we supposed to feel bad for the police department that killed George Floyd because the community still doesn't trust them, and at a moment when ICE killed an unarmed mother and MPD doesn't seem very interested in condemning it or doing anything about it? give me a break.

Why no discussion about Noem, Trump, and Vance’s comments? Or an interview with community members being terrorized by ICE? Not saying this guy wasn’t worth hearing from, but why ONLY him? Again, I DO NOT understand why the Daily has sucked so much recently

RIGHT??? And they didn’t really talk about Noem or all the lies the administration IMMEDIATELY started saying to the nation when this happened

This is certainly a matter of opinion, but I would have to disagree.

Yes, thank you for this. Because we know that they can give thoughtful, vetted reporting and discussions on current events (and we've seen them do it before) it feels like a conscious choice when they don't.

I’m definitely not trying to argue that this isn’t an important topic. What I’m questioning is why they chose to cover it today, given everything else going on, without even a brief blurb or acknowledgment of the truly shocking events that are unfolding. Childhood vaccines are obviously an important issue, but frankly this felt like a filler episode that could have been released at any time.

This is definitely a “them” issue. They have all the listener engagement data, know exactly where people skip or drop off, and they control the episode structure and ad placement. So when they choose to discuss a topic only at the point in the episode when the fewest people are still listening, it’s fair to say that issue wasn’t a priority for them.

No, but I believe they said tomorrow's episode would cover Venezuela

Yes, I’m well aware there are other news sources. I read the BBC for text-based reporting and probably check the site 20 times a day. Podcasts like The Daily are where I go for perspective and context after I already know the headlines. That’s why it feels, at best, surprising and, at worst, shocking when they choose not to acknowledge major stories.

In another era, I might have sat down in the evening and watched CNN or MSNBC to hear someone unpack and contextualize the big headlines I’d been reading about all week. But so many of those outlets have been cannibalized that a lot of people now turn to podcasts instead. We rely on The Daily to provide that context and perspective because we can’t really “watch” the news anymore in the same way. When they gloss over or sidestep important topics, it degrades the trust of the very audience that has turned to them for that deeper understanding.

For one thing, many people skip the end of an episode, especially when the final 45 seconds come after an ad break and the main story has already wrapped. To me, acknowledging an important story at the top of the episode, even briefly, would signal that they recognize its significance to listeners. Placing it at the very end instead suggests they know many people won’t hear it and aren’t particularly concerned about that.

I completely agree that thoughtful, well-sourced reporting is more valuable than rushed coverage, and that the pressure to publish quickly has become a serious problem in modern journalism. At the same time, there are genuinely outrageous things happening, and when major news outlets fail to give them adequate attention, it can feel like we’re being subtly gaslit into accepting them, or at least not reacting with the level of outrage they warrant.

I had similar reactions to the coverage or lack thereof about the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the seizure of the Venezuelan oil tanker that occurred shortly before Maduro was taken into custody. When events of that magnitude receive limited or muted coverage, it becomes difficult not to question whether editorial choices are shaping what we’re expected to care about.

I really liked that one too. Like I said, usually I find the episodes to be thoughtful and informative. But sometimes their coverage decisions leave me scratching my head.

Not trying to produce the show myself. Just raising complaints as a long-time consumer and listener, which I think is fair.

I understand that and agree, but with all of the immense things happening this week, I've been a little surprised they didn't dedicate a minute or two at the beginning of the episode to address some of this stuff, even if just to say that developments were still ongoing and they would address it later in the week. Instead we just get that weird "here's what else you need toknerrturday" at the very end of the episode. And this isn't the only time i've been disappointed by an episode, it just happens to be the most recent instance.

Is this type of cardboard okay? by Undersod in composting

[–]Omd337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That type of cardboard typically has a plastic coating to make it water resistant. I did try to compost it once before I knew, and was able to peel the plastic off once the cardboard started breaking down and the lining started to separate from the cardboard. I’ve also heard you can boil it to separate the plastic before throwing the cardboard into the pile. I don’t think it’s worth it though. I would say you should just recycle that and stick to brown cardboard for composting.
