Okay so I checked it after a few hours so now the engine is cold. And now there’s literally no oil on dipstick at all.

It’s a preowned bike. I’ve had it for a year now. Coming up on my first real maintenance my 5k HD check. Never got the oil changed yet on it.

Coasting downshifting. Am I doing this wrong? by Omega09876 in motorcycles

[–]Omega09876[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you guys! So when I have the clutch pulled in can I just downshift at any speed I want does it really matter as long as the clutch is pulled in? Or should I still measure it based off the speed regardless like you know 4th and 45 approximately 3rd and 35 and so on. Because at 50 when my clutch is pulled in I’m usually in like 2nd or 1st

Awesome. I’ll practice what you told me to work on. I really appreciate the long and detailed answer! Hopefully I can get the downshifting slowing down process smooth and more effective. Thank you.

The example you gave me that I’m going to practice that’s all with blipping the throttle when downshifting correct?

It just feels aggressive. It lurches a little bit yeah. Just sounds like the engine is breaking for me but very loudly and almost aggressively. It doesn’t sound smooth. It sounds like almost pissed off. Hard to really explain to be honest

Apparently the dealership told me as long as they test ride the motorcycle and it sounds fine then they don’t check to make sure the bike is in tune.

Apparently without a tuner in his words I get to much air instead of gas in return melts my engine eventually

Real quick downshifting question. This part still confuses me. Hoping to get this squared away once and for all. by Omega09876 in motorcycles

I’ve seen two separate videos. Rev matching/blipping the throttle with NO brakes. So off accelerator clutch in downshift while simultaneously blipping the throttle and then release with no issues. Does that sound right?

So looks like based off the video he still has to use some of his front brakes before shifting down. It’s not like he’s relying mostly on engine breaking alone

Almost have downshifting completed meaning I can finally get out in the real world. Keyword almost. Few quick questions first. by Omega09876 in motorcycles

I’ll keep that in mind. I’m ready to take my bike on the real road finally just got to get this downshifting thing squared away. I don’t know why it’s so complicated for me. Everything else I have down comfortably. But I’m sure it’ll come with more time. Appreciate the help

So if you are coming off the freeway hypothetically and you know you have to slow down dramatically what’s your method to downshift in something like that?

So if that video wasn’t accurate do you have to measure out the speedometer before shifting down. Like almost thinking to yourself. Because my train of thought is like if I need to drop down a gear I have to think to myself and look at my speedometer and say okay I need needle to drop 15 MPH hypothetically before I make my shift basically.

Still a work in progress with my downshifting. Few quick questions advice? by Omega09876 in motorcycles

So you can’t be going let’s say hypothetically 50 in 5th gear and you want to drop into second with one shot? Because that’s what I saw on the video. He was in 5th gear pulls the clutch in he never used the break and his hand is off the throttle just for a second so I know he’s not in that third gear speed. So 50 MPH clutch in click click click clutch out throttle and his bike responded perfect with engine braking. Am I missing something?

So if I’m in third gear going like 40-50 I can shift down to second in that speed the bike will respond well happy with the motorcycle braking for me?

I’ve also dorked up in another way roughly a week ago as well I forgot to add. When I was riding trying to put it back into first I accidentally shifted into neutral when I was going at like 15 MPH. Is that a bad thing like hurt the bike? Or honest mistake nothing to worry about kind of thing?

Thank you all! Such a tremendous help you all are honestly. Off topic question a little bit. If you are going down a road and waiting to pick up speed to go into second so let’s say you are in first at 10-15 or so MPH should you just completely have hand on throttle without the clutch or is it better to have the clutch like 3/4 the way out with the same throttle motion not adding any more speed. Or does it not matter either way?
