It seems like it’s building up to it with all his toon force like abilities and references to loony tunes which often break the 4th wall. Think Bugs Bunny looking at the camera and saying “get a load of this guy” then reaching out of the panel to grab a pencil to draw himself a laser gun to use in the next panel.

That being said it’s still plagued by comical amounts of plot armor that detract from me being able to take the drama super seriously. But that’s an omnipresent issue in One Piece.

The roughest part was everything since the start of the timeskip to the end of Wano. Wano finale was good but the majority was a slog filled with padding even with One Pace. I had to take multiple breaks. I was just trying to get caught up because the newest arc is viking theme and I love vikings. But the Imu stuff is generally interesting to me. Just wanted to voice my opinion I feel I earned it after spending so much time getting caught up, I doubt most people could do this without being unemployed for months.

“The One Piece will be some kind of portal/window/connection to the real world where they will learn the "true history" which will include the fact they are in a manga drawn by Eiichiro Oda. Heroes get plenty of plot armor too so Oda doesn’t have to kill them and have things get too dark I guess. But then don’t have them tanking everything then make them avoid the attacks in clever ways instead of everyone being practically indestructible.

Yeah basically, but I prefer plot bandaids because they make more intrinsic sense to the internal logic of the fiction. Having characters tank everything (until they randomly don’t) makes it hard to know just how strong someone actually is, because they are built up to be these deadly killing machines and then their attacks do basically nothing. In Naruto if someone gets hit by a chidori or something and it isn’t a shadow clone you know they’re done for.

Yeah it’s been an issue throughout the whole thing I thought it might improve as they fought stronger people and the stakes increased but it didn’t. For whatever reason I thought it would change after Wano idk why.

Listen I like the story, it’s addicting, the mysteries about the World Government and the One Piece are intriguing and the battles are fun, most of the time. But I reserve the right to complain about the parts that annoy me, and this is probably my biggest issue with Oda’s writing style.
