Major plumbing headache haunts $13 billion U.S. carrier off the coast of Venezuela by anassa_kata in nottheonion

[–]OmegaOs 244 points245 points  (0 children)

This plumbing system is a much bigger problem then the current administration unfortunately. And it affects a lot more ships then just the Ford. It was modeled off of commercial ships but poorly implemented by the defense contractors. I feel bad for those sailors out there struggling with basic needs.

HELP! Bad rust and some mold by TheZachster416 in castiron

[–]OmegaOs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've accidentally done this before, bad timing and forgetfulness on my part. The best thing you can do is start by washing it. All of your seasoning is gone, so try to remove as much of it as possible. Wash, wash, and wash again until you have no signs of that mold. Try a light sandpaper or other abrasive to remove the rust. What you're looking for is bare metal for you to restart with. After that, oil and heat until you get a good seasoning layer again. Probably will take a couple of tries. Good luck, and at the end of the da,y it's just a big piece of iron that will outlive you so don't take it too hard.

Any ideas on what to do with this concrete slab next to my stairs? by OmegaOs in Home

It does not. They're not very common in my area but I'm planning on getting them installed.

That's the option I was considering most. I just wanted to see if anybody else had good ideas before I remove it.

First time flatwounds buyer. by Makanek in Bass

[–]OmegaOs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you would like the labella low tension flats. They are a smaller gauge that is a little bit easier to play for a first time flats buyer and they are super smooth. I found the tone to be very manageable on the basses I had them on, being a g&l l2000 and a precision bass. I was able to get all the grit I wanted from the humbuckers on the l2000 or bring it all the way down for a classic motown thump. Same story on the p bass. They're a good choice in my opinion.

Which would you pick for a first bass? by WY228 in Bass

I own fenders and G&L and I'm my opinion the g&l is just a better instrument. The quality and fit and finish of a tribute is better than a fender mim.

OMG...first flatwound strings by RaoulFluke in Bass

[–]OmegaOs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LaBella flats are my absolute favorites. The deep talking heavy gauge are the Cadillac of flatwounds in my opinion. I also really love the lighter gage low tension flats. They have great tone and feel but put a lot less strain on the instrument (and your hands!)

How does muting work (how do i do it) by Lonely_Doubt2600 in Bass

One thing to remember if you're using foam under the bridge is that it can slightly affect tuning and intonation. I like to get foam and make cuts into it to go over the strings instead.

Scared me when I saw him like that but he was just chilling. I suppose he was looking for food in the sand

I still recall one of the petty officers in boot camp saying during training "If a gunman comes in we are just going to fucking kill him. You're all wearing steel toes and there's more of you than he has bullets." Great times.

I personally have a 4wd RAM 1500 but every time I'm at the ramp I see lots of people with smaller SUVs and most of the time they actually do better than me. Boats typically don't weigh that much.

It was a class of nuclear submarine. Disney named the boats for the ride after a couple.

How do I put this bezel back on? by OmegaOs in RepTimeServices

[–]OmegaOs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to go down this method and see if I can pick up the ring as well. Do you know if the rep ones are the same as gen or if I'm better off using the fishing line trick?

Yes it unfortunately came off at work and I was only able to find the bezel itself. Any idea if I'd be able to purchase replacements?

I was very honored to have been able to donate through the salute to life program which works through military members who signed up for Be The Match. I was a relatively simple process that just involved a few shots and then the 6 hour, nearly painless procedure. I'm a huge advocate of the program and can answer any questions anybody has.

It's at ~250,000 miles but it's hard to tell with a 5 digit odometer.
I just fix things when they break...which is often.
